    Default Rubbing Mags (TA22)

I've done a search and can't find anything relevent so....

I got some 14x7 jellybeans with 205/60/14 that I tried to get thrown on my car the other day. The problem is rubbing on the guard. The tyres that are on there at the moment are 195/65/14's that don't rub at all. The tyre guy said that I could take the car to a pannel beater and they might be able to fix it. He said they are rubbing pretty bad (apparently had to do a 3 point to get it out of the shed).

Has anyone had experiance with fitting tyres like this to a TA22? Can that bit thats rubbing be bashed out?

Looks to me like you need to go and get a wheel alignment and tell them to wind as much positive castor on as possible..
It will improve your handling and should fix your scrubbing issue.
I wouldn't be seeing a panelbeater to do any massaging - it really shouldn't be needed..

Its all about the offset. The jellybeans probably sit more flush with the gaurds and cause rubbing due to the fact they are closer to the gaurds.
Theres alot you can do to the gaurds to stop them rubbing, roll, pump, get rid of plastic lining etc etc. Dialing in some camber would probably stop rubbing aswell.
    Buts thats all probably unnescessary.

205 is a wide tyre when in a high profile (eg 60) and thats what would be causing the rubbing. but for example I use 185/55/14's on a 14x7" rim on my AE86 and the wheels sit flush and are actually outside the gaurds at the bottom (-3 degrees camber) butthe car is very low aswell, and I never have rubbing issues.

I think your probibly right about the offset.

I had the alignment fixed up at the start of the year because it was out so bad, the fronts were down to the end of the tread on the outside and the inside was fine. Its probibly out again but...

I'll take it to a different tyre shop and see if they can do anything with it...

i dont see where its rubbing... is it rubbing on the lip of the guard...? or on the inside of the wheel well somewhere...?

if its rubbing on the inside of the wheel well, just smack it with a hammer.

edit: also, is it just the one wheel, or the pair...?

If your tyres were wearing unevenly it is most likely because your toe or camber was out of alignment.. Not many tyre places even bother checking the castor when doing a wheel alignment and as such it could be way out, causing your tyre to scrub on the wheel well.
Go and get an alignment and ask specifically for them to wind on as much positve castor as possible and it will move your whole wheel forward and should fix or at least reduce your scrubbing problem..
Offset of the wheel and tyre size do play an important part too, but your castor is easy to adjust and could just fix your problem.. Its the first thing i would do anyway.. if you get some castor and it still rubs then you know its something else, but its always good to have some pos castor anywho
