Hi,

Just having one of my spur of the moment crazy ideas when I figure that swapping the tail lights in the RA28 would be a good thing to do. I got thinking that as it's based on the 60's Mustang something of an "Eleanor" inspired conversion would look cool.
For those that are not familiar (what have you been hiding under) and those that need a refresh this is what they look like on the Mustang;
Now what I was thinking of is finding something locally that has a similar looking style to it with a nice smooth rectangular lens. Now I know that in Australia we still need an amber coloured indicator and thats ok but ultimately what I'm looking for is an old (preferably toyota) vehicle that would have something suitable.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what vehicles have/had these style lights here in Aus?

The taillights on the Eleanor are an aftermarket replacement for the FORD Thunderbird. The MS55 tail lights would be quite a bit shorter, due to the fuel filler panel, not a really pretty light. The 1st gen MS65 tail lights are a funky bit of kit, they look the business when lit up.

nostalgia is not what it used to be:
All shelby mustangs ( which is that tail end ) ran mercury cougar tail lights . ZH - ZF Fairlane tail lights could be modded pretty easily i reckon to give that look , Not sure about the MS65 arent they slightly rouneded at the top ( i dont known crowns just asking )

Isn't there a fellow on here that made an ra28 style replica-esque thing? What did he use?

Hi,
Yeah, but I think he used the normal Mustang lights (that Ford copied from the RA28)

Yeah here that is;
These are Mustang lights and look much cleaner than the original RA28's but still not a dramatic enough change like the Eleanor style lights would be.
They may not be long enough for my liking but the tail lights from the XB-XC look ok.
Anyone happen to know the length and width of these?
The bonus here is that the lenses are available new from Rare Spares
Or the tail lights from the Landau LTD version of the coupe?
Glen
The Landau ones particularly would look good with a black surround rather than chrome.

Hmm after everything I have seen so far I think these might be the go;
67 Camaro
These look a bit shorter than the Mustang ones so should fit better in the rear of the RA28 and also have the clear lens meaning I can make it a reverse light or an indicator with the right colour globe/LED.
Just have to find out the dimensions of these now........
if u don't mind a bit of new age, if its not going to far, some supra tail lights will have right shape... just different inner arrangement of course.. if it takes ur liking...
It would be interesting none the less on a muscle setup. i think it may work.

Hmm yeah I don't think the 80 series Supra lights would work in something like this. They don't have that old school look to them and with their curve it would make it hard to fit the body of the Celica.
The Camaro lights are still on the top of the list for now.
