    Hi,

    Hmmmm a turbo-compund 18R-G...

I think you're onto something here. Can you use your vast metallurgical skills to make me a quill shaft and gearing/couplings to connect to the crank?

    Hi,

Just to be a smart arse, and the fact that I haven't posted anything highly informative in the past few weeks, let me explain what a turbo-compound engine is (in case you were wondering).

A turbo-compound engine is where the turbos not only do their normal turbo thing and provide some form of forced induction, but a slim shaft (called a quill shaft) is connected to the turbo and, through various and complicated gearing, is fed back to the crankshaft.

This provides extra power to the engine.

    Cool, eh?

I thought it was where one turbo pumped its boost into another turbo's inlet creating multiple stages of boost.

I dont get why you'd put the miniscule amount of power of a turbo back into the crank...

    Hi,

Turbo-compunds were used on big aircraft piston engines, where the turbos were 12inches in diameter and had plenty of rotational power to be useful.

The R-3350 (3,350 cubic inch) turbo-compound got an extra couple of hundred HP by doing this. I don't think it's work on a small car engine turbo......( except the 18R-G )
