the plate stamped with TOYOTA above it on the firewall will tell you what motor that is mate..
in a mates 83 corona.
says it recently had a new motor put in but he has no idea what.
has 1.9L badges on the car.
is this a starfire?

2sc by the looks of things.
If in doubt power out
2S motor ? What does it say on the build plate (just above brake-booster on right-hand side)?
Only useful thing in this motor is the sump, oil pickup and possibly bell-housing (for someone doing a RWD conversion of a 3S motor).
that plate will tell you what the factory put in there, not sure if it still has the same type motor in it.
badges on boot say 1.9L
rego says 1995cc
look at the engine number on the block. if it is a 2S, it will start with 2S

thanks oldrolla
engine number starts with 2s..
so are they any good?
is unleaded fine or does it need the fuel additive lead replacement?
anything that should be done to keep it reliable?
won't need lead additive, since all toyota aluminium heads have valve seats that are ok. cast iron heads have issues.
unleaded will be ok, but it might appreciate better than 91.. see how it goes.
as per chuckster... if it has a 2S, it makes it easier to put a 3S in i suppose..
on the other hand.. it should keep going for a while
\/\/ ahh, good idea![]()

Or a 5S....... For an old Corona, a torquey 5S might be better suited to the original Corona gearing
Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
That's a 2SC.
They're poo, but effective for something you want to drive around cheaply.
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....
Oh and other S motors are a bit of a carnt to fit in, don't listen too much to the peanut gallery when they say they'll "bolt in" or "bolt in with minor work"

I was only suggesting that the motor be removed and the useful part of it sold/gifted to someone (like me) who is putting a 3SGE into a sensible RWD chassis (e.g. one with 2 doors) :-)
thanks guys,
she's not goin anywhere, it's my mates new daily driver.
Hey everyone. Glad to be apart of the forums.
The car Twenty B was referring to is mine. I thought i would join up to ask a few questions, if i may...
Its a 83 ST141 Corona. It has the 3speed auto and is begging for another gear, while out on the highway.
My first question would be... Does the 4 speed gearbox that the Corona also came out with, have the same final gear ratio as the auto 3 speeds, or will i have to use a 5speed to get any change?
(I dont totally understand how that works, so excuse me if im way off)
And, which gear box is going to be easiest to put in and be most reliable?
Thanks for all your help.
