what about performance wheels they still make old school wheels like performance challengers and also super lites in 15x7 would look good 205x50 on the front and 225x50 for the back ,no need for flaring as i had this on my TA 22 gtv celica and it looked great

Just thought I would double check those wheel sizes since Bananaman's Post and it seems I was slightly off myself, Qld rules are +15mm over standard wheel+tyre diameter and -26mm below overall standard diameter. Sorry for the confusion people....

I did see a pic once of a yellow 22 outside a coffee house, american pic I think.Would anyone have that? The wheels looked maybe 17 but anyway I want the modern look so make my own probably.

Ps. The Fonz must be related to the Borg.[/QUOTE]

Is this the pic you were after mate, I believe they are dragways.

Rosey, that's the pic alright.Where could I source them from and what size do you think those wheels are as I think the proportion looks ideal. What offset is needed? I dont mind modifying the guards a little bit.

the convention is to call it 'rolling diameter' (OD diameter of wheel as fitted to rim).

What do you intend to do with the car and what are the roads you'll most likely travel on? Let that determine your rim+tyre choice.

I would go a set of period correct 15" wheels my self! Subtle, Tasteful & functional!

16's wouldn't be bad BUT I want 16's for my soarer and I have been looking, it is rather hard to find nice classic style wheels in good sizes/offset in that diameter unfortunately! Plus as mentioned tyres are more expensive for 16".

this is a pic of my old 23 with 17's. I think it looked ok but old school celica's NEED old school wheels to make the total package. There are plenty of examples out there but i cbf searching. have a look though old celica cruise photo's and members rides

Selecting wheels for a Classic Celica is more about the whole package and look than just slapping on some 17's. It's about ride height, How clean the total look is etc.

Personally I wouldn't go bigger than 16's and that would only be to get decent tyre selection over a 15 inch.

Personal opinion (obviously) plays a part as well. Chrome 17's killed it for me on a few TA22s around this area a while back, they just said the wrong thing.

The below are all 15 inch or smaller.

Thanks guys. I do like the wheel size Jordo and colour but the spoke design is not my cup of tea. We've all got totally different tastes. And Lambo, that is interesting to hear you say the yellow coffee shop 22 is sitting on 15in. If you are correct then that look is my choice. With the car lowered the wheels seem to fill the arches nicely. Glad you let me know they are 15's.I thought they were more 16-17in.Anyway thanks again.

They may be a 16 on the yellow one however they appear to be an ROH Gambler and as far as I am aware, gamblers only came up to 15 inch.

    I could be wrong.

The yellow one in particular is sitting quite low which is part of the over all look

Doesn't look like an Oz based car though, could be Weld Draglites (or the centreline equivalent) based on the name of the photo.

    In *general*, I find that 13-15" suit TA22s, and 15-17" suite #A23-RA28.

It is only a slight difference, but I think the longer nose of the #A23 onwards can accomodate the difference in looks of a 17" wheel. TA22s look comical on 17s, their proportions are far better suited to the smaller wheels.
