    Default 16in or 17in Wheels on TA22?

Which is the best option? Which is the most comfortable? Personally I prefer the 17in look but dont want to be bouncing down the road like a kangaroo which might result in teeth falling out and eyeballs. Wisdom required from ones who's been, done that .Thanks.

Sauceman. Is the car being used for everyday road use? If so you could well get a defect if used in NSW & QLD, not sure of other states. You are allowed up to and including 50mm + or - in rim diameter from standard.

I have 15 x 6 rims with 195/50/15 tyres on my TA22. Even they can be a rough on our great Northern NSW, Southern QLD roads.

depending on the look you are going for....

personally i would fender mirror it up, and get something of the cars era in a jap racing style rim.. 14x8 possibly even some 15x8-9's with neg offset will get it looking super hot sauce...

Fonzie's TA22 is so JDM it makes me want to kill a whale....

    Hi,

Fonzy's car is actually used for whaling!

From a visual perspective, and therefore my personal taste (for what it is worth), anything bigger than 16 inch looks wrong on these old school beauties.

16's can be dificult to get tyres for so go 15's with a 205/50 or 17's with a 205/40.

I think in this day and age with every tom dick and harry having 20" + rims, the chance of you getting busted for 16's or 17's is quite slim.

    Hi,

    Fonz!!!!

I'm sure there's a forums rule about displaying that pic. It's sooooo sad and bad, I'm sure it's a bannable offence to post that image here.

I'm just giving these folks here an idea of what it looks like with big wheels, this pic was taken at the World Time Attack at Eastern Creek this year, the same car was at the Meguiar's Motor ex at Homebush.

Ban me! NOOOO!! I was just setting an example.

The best option and most comfortable wheels really depend on what you want to do with your car. A lot of people also forget that tire sizes, profile size, tire compound, tire pressures, tread pattern, rim design and other characteristics will also determine the ride comfort and handling.

One of the factors I encountered was width, profile and availability, which led me to purchasing tires overseas. Legality about wheel size isn't an issue if the cop ticks full inspection on the defect notice =P.

Do what you want just be prepared for the consequences.

Just for one more time, l like it. There's lots of work to get those wheels to fit.

You are not going to ban me are you?

Now to get back to what the question is, go find a wheel design you like and then find oiut if they make them in the stud size you have, PCD 4-114.3 for toyota's, then do they make them 16's or 17's and what width size, 7in for a 22 with out flares and then profile size on the tyres, 45's on the 16's, 40's on the 17's.

Go find some wheels first thats the hardest thing.
I am trying to find either 17 or 18 in for a RA40 Celica but as Simmons don't make wheels anymore, f%&k it is hard to find a brand or design that is going to suit.
I have found Works wheels but will wait for a price list first.

Don't ban me River for showing a car that some people might like. Does that car run a Nissan motor?

Can I just mention to you that the figures quoted about legality are slighty off (for queensland anyway). On a car you are allowed +26 bigger and -50mm smaller than original diameter. But this is not Rim size they are refering to it is overall size including tyres. You can also only go 1/3 the diameter bigger than standard so tyre/rim width is something to consider if you want to keep it legal. So as far as rim size you can go as big as you like as long as the profile of the tyre comes down to suit the overall diameter rule.

I am not sure if NSW is the same. I believe in NSW you can get an engineers certificate for most things down there if the engineer is willing to approve it. I have only been told that though, don't personally know that to be a fact.

    I hope that helps

As far as i am aware that rule was changed a very long time ago, the last change to the VSI is dated 2003.... Rim diameter does not matter it is overall diameter:

The thing you are more likely to break when replacing the wheels on a TA22 is the increase in wheel width and track rules. This is also detailed in the doco above.
