    Default Distributer for 5M-GE

I'm sourcing parts to swap a 5MGE into an MA61 and I'm not sure what year dizzy will be suitable.

I'm not sure what year my engine was manufactured, but I have sourced and bought an ECU for a JDM 5MGEU, part number "89661 30011".

5MGE's were vacuum advance in '82 then electronic advance from '83 onwards, so I assume if I buy a rebuilt '82 dizzy from the US it will be vacuum advance. Which means if my ECU is from '83 or later the dizzy won't be suitable and I need one with electronic advance?

Have I got this right? Does anyone have any helpful hints for looking up what year my ECU would have been from? Or is there some dodgy way to just use a vacuum advance dizzy on a later model engine/ecu?

If anyone can help me choose the right part here it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Last time I looked under the bonnet of an MX7x Cressida with a 5MGE (AUS delivery) it had the later model dizzi. The two that Simon had were both this kind of ignition. JDM is more likely to be the later kind (they always got better stuff than us).

Scabbing parts from a MX7x at the wreckers might be easier than trying to adapt earlier 5ME/GE dizzi and igniter?

Had a look thru toyodiy.com to try and identify that ECU?

Yeah.. I was leaning more to later model for pretty much those reasons.. I did try toyodiy.com but I'm still getting the hang of the interface - finding it easier to find parts for known car models than looking up cars based on part numbers. I'll work it out though..

Think I'll definitely try to get out to a wreckers soonish to try scabbing an old dizzy to rebuild.

(edit: turns out I can't find an MS112 or any Crown from Japan before '84 on toyodiy.. :/)
