Default how to get more caster in your AE86 without rubbing the front bumper off

(or making your car look ridiculous)

hi there AE86 owners (particularly drifters and those who have found wheels with sprinter like offset)

whats caster you say? well here is a link, because asking questions on toymods automatically means you dont know how to use google or wikkeppeddia.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caster_angle

i heard a rumor a while ago that you can uise KE70 strut tops to get more positive caster in an AE86, and because i never believe anythign anyone says i went to pick a part to see if it would work.

    short story shorter, it does.

here are the two strut tops in question

at first i was worried that the KE70 ones were flimsier than the AE86 ones. they probably are, but bouncing the car and watching the KE70 and AE86 tops showed that they are both pretty flimsy.

here are the two in the car side by side.

initial test drive is promising, and i can always wind a bit more in using the radius rods if i need to.

you can also get caster by pressing out the inside strut top stud, swapping the tops left to right and re-drilling the inside stud hole. this puts the two holes pretty close to each other, so i;d suggest welding up one of the holes while trying not to damage the rubber.

I tried to get new powersteering tops from totota but they were 160 bucks each plus tax and postage from japan. I also tried to get new KE70 ones but they didnt have a listing for them, so i settled for the least cracked looking set at the wreckers.

    have fun!

if you swap them left to right, how far off are the holes? could you get away with filing the hole in the body? or redrilling it?
i remember seeing IRA11Y's AE86 strut tops in KE70 doing the same thing, by swapping left and right, but i don't think he redrilled the hole in the strut tops (adjustables anyway)

from my rough measurements the holes would almost overlap.

you could redrill/slot the hole in the body, but if you redrill the strut top it is undetectable without pulling the car apart.

if you had a strut brace you couldn't tell anyway, when i get one i might put the AE86 ones back in in the wrong sides and slot the holes in the body - good idea

pretty sure the t3 ones are "stock" offset which is why i didn't get them

Late model japanese ae86 might've come standard with the more positive castor too *shrugs*

i just read on AE86drivingclub that you can use SW20 rear plates, i think im going to get some of them if my KE70 ones ever pop the struts through the bonnet.

Why does toyota do stuff like this?
anyways, a quick search of the EPC shows the same part number for GT spec ae86s, and ae71s.
part numberr 48609-12100 for everyone who wishes to search it.
or you can be a cheap ass like me and just drill the top and swap them over.

yeah i was keen to get AE71 bits, but at least one person who gives their KE70 a hard time has confirmed that his are still holding together.
