Default Project Hi-Comp MR2 Update - Now What Ecu to use? (3SGTE)

    Project Hi-Comp MR2

Back from stage one of the development and back into the tuning game after going back and forth overseas.

Well the cars just done over 1,000kms and is looking good so far!

For a motor being rated at 163KW stock. Its putting nearly just that at the wheels

Now to fix up this mega rich bitch mixture -

11.0 Leanest WOT AFR VS -10.0 FULL WOT

Build - Stock CT26 Ceramic turbo, stock Ecu, Stock 430cc injectors, stock AFM, 3" exhaust. Looks like its putting more power then the GEN 3 3SGTE stock with 1.7Psi less boost on my motor.

I've achieved the 150RWKW target of a daily driver and chasing up 180RWKW (hoping the ecu) can correct the AFR and give me a smoother curve and abit more juice.

I'm looking at Haltech E8, But have been recommened EMS by the guy who built the motor (who also did a great job!)

The car certainly feels better, and at 10-20% throttle it gets up and boogies which makes it a great daily driver! (driving down parra rd at lunch time only needing to press the gas pedal literally 5cm and your overtaking cars)

But what other ecu's should I consider, Keep in mind this a daily so it needs good injector controlling (pref seq)

BTW stock boost reffers to the AVCR at OFF setting with the gate only allowing 5PSI. VS 13PSI (stock CT26 waste gate control)

seeing as its a daily driver im assuming you will want it to be street legal might pay to get in touch with an engineer to find out what they will and wont engineer and start from there

3k should get you something really nice. Local shop here charges 2k for drive in/drive out EMS stinger. Look at a PowerFC though, they're plug and play, save you heaps of $$$ in wiring, and can be had for around 1k brand new.

$2100 for power fc for my application. 1991 Needs AP engineering modified version, Water temp, Air temp sensor + Hand controller all seperate. As the Motor is only a GEN 2 AFM.

Apexi only officially released a GEN 3 motor version.

And their limited compared to a real EMS

    www.greenline.jp

They had the AP engineering ones on there a while ago, about $1200. Email their australian dealer (it's on the main page)

But I agree, for similar money (except for the wiring) you can have an australian ECU.

Here's the total break down of the power. I've always loved one due to plug and play ease.

    But -

    APEXERA APEXi Power FC ¥79,233
APEXERA APEXi SW20 Air Temperature Sensor 89 ¥4,082
APEXERA APEXi Air Temperature Sensor Connector 4G73GK ¥1,040
    APEXERA APEXi FC Commander ¥28,298
APEXERA APEXi 3m Commander Extension Cable 415-X ¥2,646

    115,299.00 JPY
    Japan Yen = 1,349.02 AUD
    Australia Dollars
    1 JPY = 0.0117002 AUD 1 AUD = 85.4687 JPY

Plus delivery + Taxes looking at $1500 which isnt too bad!

Not the AP Engineering version. Only the real Apexi one

as the AP engineering is only the Power FC ECU modded to suite the car

Wolf 3D? 3kshould be able to cover install, tune and hand controller.
Motec? and you could get a fully sick 'full motech exhaust'

Im running a microtech but i have no idea whats actually decent for twin stage tuning, especially on a turbo motor. Good luck buddy

I've got an autronic sm4, cost me $2300 without tuning or installation but i'll be able to get it put in and tuned for under $3k. That price was also with a map sensor, and you'll also need a boost controller thingy (mind block but its not a turbosmart bleed valve - the thing im thinking of is actually controlled by the computer).
I'd imagine tuning to be around the $500 mark, with installation close to that also unless you've got hook ups. I think the boost controller retails for around $150-200 afaik.

wolf have a plug and play V4 plus like in my gt4 for yours I believe

Im gettinig 170 KW at all 4's ( thats 3 differentials not just 1 like you! ) from it with a stock turbo and fuel system still

you should easily be able to crack that or above in an Mr2 with the goodies you haveand have it well within budget to upgrade your injectors if you wish to get out a little more

I've tried the Wolf 3D v4 plugin, but the Power steer doesnt work as the MR2 needs the stock ecu to get the PAS working. It goes with the stock ecu + relays to get it moving as its electrical and not driven by the pump.

Also did you require to shave off some teeth on the dizzy for your 3S for the wolf to work?

With a budget like that, i'd be looking at becoming a Toymods member (if you're not already) and see what deals SAS can do you on an Autronic SM4. On the flip side, the Adaptronic ECU I see kicking around looks to be quite good value and has a lot of features going for it.
