    Question TA22 wheel wells

    Hi guys,

    I asked this question yesterday and for some reason its no longer available to view...

    don't know if it was a repeat question but I couldn't find any conclusive answers in any other posts.

    I am trying to find out whats behind the wheel wells of a TA22 celica near the firewall edge?

    I am worried if I cut into it or hammer it in you will see a hole in the footwell from the interior?

    This is all because I have bigger wheels and tires and they rub when I turn the wheel... its very slight so I wont need to do a lot of modifying... alternatively I could buy smaller tires but I've already swapped them twice!

    Is it an offset problem with your wheels... ie would wheel spacers fix the problem.. or just move it to hitting the guards?

    I think the majority of the wheel well is opposite the engine bay.

    I have 16" wheels with 215/45/16 tires. rims are 0 offset... looking at some of the other posts it seems that people have done this with very little modification. I have also been advised to look at caster angle, which I'm leaning towards more as I dont have to smash the wheel well in... only mods will be to the front guard arch near the bottom... but this I can live with...

    Bud, it is a combination of rim width, offset, and size of the tyre that is causing you problems here. 215 is pretty large for the front of any TA22..

    You could adjust the steering stops on the lower control arms to prevent the wheels contacting the "inner guard", downside is, it will increase your turning circle.

    Questions, what brakes are you running?, is the standard strut being used,? is the standard hub being used? what width are your wheels?

    Standard struts, hubs, brakes... wheels are 7" wide.

    I am going to update most of the suspension components to more adjustable items in the near future (T3 most likely) also the brakes will be updated with T3 or similar items...

    I dont mind chopping the front guards so much, so I am hoping caster will fix most of my problems?

    I only suggest T3 as they are very adjustable!

    Side note:

    QLD regs allow for +2" over stock wheels = 15"

    Victoria allows ?
