they often dont, the shocks i put in my ra60 came with nuts that were like that. they havent come loose yet.
hey guys. im replacing the front strut cartrages on my celica.
I'v pulled the old one out and removed all the extra washers and things and put the new one in but the problem is the top fastening nut that came with the new cartrage doesnt screw all the way down as shown in the images. is that a problem? it does screw 50% down and holds fast. but im not sure if thats enough or if its normal
images show what i mean.

1983 Toyota Celica Supra
Is there any spacer post welded to the bottom of the shock that could be shortened? Like the old Koni Reds that we used to use and love.

You can buy different thickness gland nuts - just buy shorter ones. I had to do the opposite and buy thicker ones..
KE20 CA18DET / RN25 12R / IS200 1G / NA MX5 B6
TA22 struts are longer than RA23 ones - Maybe you were given the longer ones thus the problem?
maybe ..but if they are they can do the work to put the new ones in.
Put the heavy duty red (?) locktight on the threads and tighten a LOT but as previously stated, getting longer lock rings would be better.
well i tightened them as much as possible. f'n tight i can tell you. they seem solid and iv spent the entire day driving around on them (not kindly i might add i keep forgetting that i cant ignore low speedbumps anymore :S)
ill leave it for now and monitor the situation.
thanks for all your advice
