Job is pretty urgent but I really don't want to cut the tunnel.
Hi everyone,
Need some help with a gearbox conversion in an RT104 corona.
Have a W50 that has it's gear lever housing further forward than the old W40 it is replacing, was just wanting to know before i start mixing and matching parts, can I swap the W40 gear lever housing and gear lever (internal, not gear stick) over to the new W50?
If this is possible will i have to also swap the selector rod?
Cheers for any help,
Adrian

Assuming both gearboxes have the same bolt pattern on the shifter housing (some of the early W40's only have 4 bolts), then yes you can swap them over.
You'll need to remove the rear housing to slide the elbow/collar thing off (the bit the very base of the shifter sits in)

No good,
both the W40 and W50 I have are 5 bolt housings but the control lever in the W50 is different to the W40 ( it has the tang on the bottom of the control lever instead of to the side) the W50 seems to have it at the bottom between two sprung slides to keep the shifter upright where as the W40 has the tang to the side with a reverse stop screwed into the extension housing to stop the gear shifter from swinging to far to the left.
Also the roll pin that secures the shift lever to the selector rod is at a different angle between boxes.
Any ideas?????
This may be of help??

Hope these pics will help, the red box is the W50 and the other is the W40.
Worth noting, that I have just been told the 5speed is a W50, not confirmed.
Americans had the pov pack 4 spd W-40/50s in their RA21/TA22s (side note)
Hmmm, I'm beginning to think that my W40 and W50 both came with the same position shifter, so I never had to swap them over.
