    Default 7mgte - r154 clutch

    Hey guys & girls,

Just wondering what clutch setups you guys are running, and after a bit of info.

    I'm running the 7mgte, t70, 3"dump n exhaust, 4" intake, 750cc injectors, fpr, intercooler, 13psi in my MZ21 Toyota Soarer

Not sure of the power output or anything yet as it hasnt seen the dyno..

However lately my clutch has started slipping and i think its only like 6 months old, so wondering what would be sufficient..

I was looking at this: http://clutchfinder.exedy.com.au/
Part number # TYK-6571HDB (Heavy duty Button Kit)

Till i found out the price tag, $920!!

    or this

    http://store.driftmotion.com/static/...kitforr154.php

now thats a stage 3, heavy duty 6 puck, rated to 500hp clutch for 675 delivered!

Does anyone have any info on either of these, or know where to get a cheaper option?

Also let me know what your running

    Cheers Ben

I have used that exedy one in my cressida previously, til the engine shat itself, now in a jzz20 drift car which gets very nicely abused and still holding up without a problem.
Another option is to go with X-treme, pricing should be cheaper. I know a bloke with a jzz30 that gets drifted with the X-treme clutch in it and like the exedy it is taking pleanty of abuse.
Just remember, stay with the ceramic type plates, forget about the organics. And that the clutch kits for 7mgte/R154 and 1jzgte/R154 are the same... (except twin plates/flywheels obviously)

Then - 1989 MX83 - The big scrap heap in the sky...

i HAD the exedy heavy duty button, nice solid pickup, was a lot smoother than i expected from a solid button clutch, sold it off a while back after the motor shat itself. will be switching to a twin plate i picked up cheap when the engine goes back in

I had a non cushioned button clutch in my liberty with ej20t conversion, it was brutal. Never again will I get one for a daily driver.

In my 1j cressida I have an exedy cushioned button clutch. Will definitely be buying another one if/when this one dies. Forgiving in traffic as you can slip it a little but plenty of bite when clutch kicking it

I see you've already ordered one which makes my advice moot, might be useful for future reference though.

lol, yeah i had a brass button in my 1g soarer before.. everyone stalled it when they first got in it! haha

but after a while you get used to it, doesnt really bother me lol.

i guess i'll have to wait and see what its like

i found the solid button to be very forgiving for street use actually, may have something to do with the r154 being a pull-type clutch, but i used to be able to gently let out the clutch with no throttle and the car would pull away smoothly. will be interested to see what you think once the clutch is installed

I had a bad experience with an Xtreme 5 puck and XHD pressure plate kit that I purchased last year. The thing was so completely out of balance that the car almost shook itself to pieces when I first test drove it. Gearbox had to come out again and as I could no longer trust extreme to supply proper parts, I got it balanced myself. So you can imagine how much this added onto my costs.

The clutch didnt last very long either and I replaced it again since then.I am still using the same XHD pressure plate but now using a 9 puck clutch disc which is so much nicer to drive in traffic. I dont believe the 9 puck was listed on the extreme catalogue as being for a supra but if you talk to a clutch shop they will know whats best for your application.

so the clutch is in, and i've had a quick drive with it, so far so good.

its quite a light pedal, but picks up good..

i'll let you guys know if i come across any issues
