yeh me wanna kno 2
hey guys, bought a kit a while back,
just dont know how to fit it up????????,
i read an article a while back on here (cant find it using search) saying that you need to make it breathe really well?
cheers, blake![]()

Run a tube frm the crankcase breather into one side of the catch can. Then the other hole of the can connect a tube that runs to your intake manifold where the stock breather tube was connected. Its that simple.
The oil catch can basically prevents oily gases from entering your intake manifold. For turboed cars a problem that can arise is oil entering the intercooler. For na cars the oil in the intake lowers octane lvls. Google it if u need more info![]()
ah so basically its a must 4 modified cars

I've seen oil breathers on a 3S-FE ( not legal ) so a Catchcan would also work ( and would be legal )
you can set it up so that it doesnt have the return into the air intake. this eliminates any crappy gasses from going back in to the intake and polluting the air/fuel mix.
its definetly not legal, but hey, what is these days. you can buy catch cans with an air filter on them that vents the gases to atmosphere, you have to empty the can of oil every now and then tho.

No it's illegal to have them venting to atmosphere... another downside is that you generally get an oily residue all over your engine and engine bay. Just plug it back to the intake.
Eddie.
4agte finally completed. 234rwkw @ 8125rpm. Tis fun
so these ones r illegal???
and these r ok??

as with most mods, if you don't know why you need it... do you really need it?
catch can is a can that catches oil
there are MANY guides on the net on how to hook one up. i cannot believe that when you were searching, you could not find one of them.
it is NOT a must for modified cars. it is only needed when you have excessive oil coming from the rocker/cam cover vents. crank case breather should not be spitting oil
if you are not currently losing significant amount of oil, you don't need one, and it is just a wank.. (esp those with sight tubes)
aaaanyway... actually search before posting basic questions... especially if you have already bought the thing![]()

atmo breating crank case is a bad idea on efi motors.
where do you think all that gas pressure came from? air only enters the engine from one spot, so if you vent to atmo thats basically a vacuum leak.
also one thing to note is that oily gas blow back whatever ya call it also lubes the throttle butterfly so it doesnt stick =)
Sorry, but that is completely wrong. It will only create a vacuum leak if you don't plug the hole where it was previously connected to the inlet manifold. The purpose of a crankcase vetilation sytem is to remove excess pressure inside the engine created by blowby (past rings or valve stem seals) or pressure/vacuum due to the high speed movement of reciprocating parts. If you don't have ventilation your engine will not be very happy, whether that is by a a one way valve into the intake which allows excess pressure to be sucked into the combustion chamber or by simply directly venting the pressure to the atmosphere.Originally Posted by terra
The only reason to retain the factory sealed system is legality, manufacturers only went to sealed systems for emissions purposes. The benefit of venting is keeping impurities (oil fumes etc) out of the intake charge, the more worn or harder pushed an engine is the more benefit you will get. For a good condition factory engine though you would be hard pressed to actually feel any benefit.

thats has got to be the most uninformed post we've had for a while....Originally Posted by terra

ah well, my mileage goes poo poo if the pcv isnt run back into the intake =(
Although, if you are racing you may need one for safety rules. In drag racing it is a good idea to have one in case something goes wrong and oil comes out. A guy on soarercentral had oil come out the cam cover and spill over his exhaust manifold which resulted in a fire. That is one pretty good reason to have one. If it already has a pipe going to the intake then it isn’t really required. (for fire reasons anyway)
