I agree that a turbo is the way to go for outright performance.

However, I still feel that a blower is readily doable on the 'realetively' cheap, and setup could indeed be simpler. I already have extractors and the exhaust, I'm pretty confidant that a blower can fit where the AC compressor usually goes, piping is not a big issue, but I need to do some thinking on the drive belt front.
If I can get 10 to 15 more HP at the tyres, for the cost of a blower, and some minor dicking around with pulleys, I'll be quite the happy man.

A few more questions: Does anyone know how much power can be transmitted through an A series belt without it slipping?

Has anyone ever seen any temp or drive curves for the toyota blowers? I can find info like max rpm and airflow etc from Ogura (who I'm told made the blowers originally), but no maps.

    Thanks guys.

    ----Edit----
Love ke70: I like the idea of the LPG injection, though I can't really justify spending that kind of $$$$$ on a car thats probably only worth 6K on a good day. . . . Hence this whole thread I guess. Though, I have been doing some thinking on a simple fixed rate manually adjusted lpg system that could boost power and economy on the highway.

are they still doing the rebates?
i did mine for less than the rebate cost...

but its pretty well a waste of time unless your running extra air for the extra fuel

By A series, do you mean the toyota A series engines?
If you are asking about a 4agze belt, it is a 6 rib belt, and if setup properly should transmit enough power to break the SC12 before the belt slips. None of the oversized pully kits come with a wider belt, as far as i know.

I'm not aware of any efficiency/power maps for the SC12 and 14, but they would be pretty bad, as they are an old style roots design. I would try to get an M90 or M62 instead, as they are likely to be significantly more efficient.

Thanks for the tip supra967. I had previously had a look, but didn't find anything but did this time. Very interesting.

By A series belt, I mean a standard 'A' width V belt. At a guess, I'd say they are 10mm wide. Commonly found driving small compressors, power steering pumps etc. My hilux uses a double setup to drive the alternator and water pump, but then has an extra 2. 1 for power steer, 1 for the AC. Just wondering how much power they can transmit, as to whether it would be easier to adapt a ribbed belt onto the crank, or adapt a couple of v belts to the blower. The SC clutch wouldn't be needed anyway, so changing the blower drive pulley is an option.

Having a look at the ogura TX15, which I'm lead to belive is the SC14, I would be looking at greater than 60% efficiency, with a 1.4 to 1.5 PR. (if the maths I've done is right) Not too bad really, considering that a lot of turbos are only around that at such low pressure ratios.

Love ke70: Like you say, 10% power increase on bugger all is, bugger all. Although, the obvious benifits of the improved fuel burn would be a big bonus, as these motors are dirty little bastards. Still may be a viable option. I'll look into whether the grant is still going. A simple system is definately doable on the cheap though.

yeah, its also your EGTS, on a diesel your EGTS drop with boost (maybe im telling you things you know?) which allows you to add more fuel, on a N.A diesel if you then add gas and the EGTS are pretty high already, which they likely will be, your just looking for trouble.

with my D-GAS kit it gives me 25-30% more power when its on to when its off, as shown on a dyno

Ah, makes sense. My car related terminology is a bit patchy.
Sounds like it might be a little thin. You could also just try it and see if it works.
According to a book i have on supercharger systems (supercharged by corkey bell) a 1 inch is good for about 150hp. I don't know how much power an sc14 draws though.

My old man turbo'd his 3.2 Navara, did next to nothing (i felt bad cause he forked out over 3 grand for the kit to be fitted). Later put gas on and difference was amazing.

At the sort of flows / pressures I'm looking at, less than 10HP.

supra967, you can add all the air you want to a diesel, it will make fuck all more power, you need the fuel to match, cause they will happily run lean all day, so it does seem like a waste until you add more fuel
