Well George wouldn't the TE1 and TE2 avaliable on the diag connector in the engine bay which should be attached to the 1jz loom? So would I just bridge the appropriate terminals and watch the CEL flash away? No need for DLC Connectors?

Absolutely not, you may just use some piece of wire to connect TE or TC to gnd and then enjoy blinking light. Only make sure first that those terminals are connected to corresponding ECU connector pins.

However OBD2 interface, where available, can provide you with some extra info.

Madmont and George are talking about OBDII stuff which might be confusing you

For OBDI you connect TE1 to E1 to get codes to flash out the Check Engine Light.

For OBDII you connect Tc to E1 to get codes to flash out the Check Engine Light.

    Thanks,

I assume the Twin Turbo 1jz's are all OBD1, so all a case of just using the under bonnet plug that is part of the ECU Loom, i wont have a problem then.

For OBD2, where are the TC and E1 pins located? in the same area like under the bonnet on the diag con, or are these in the dash somewhere?

    Thanks.

For obd2 vehicles these pins are located in dlc1 connector under hood. For a converted car, the TC pin is most likely not connected to the ECU.

Also for converted vehicles there won't be a diag connector somewhere in the dash unless you buy and install it ) For other vehicles you will find the TC and E1 pins in the dash diag connector as well.

So for example when putting a VVTI 1jz-gte in another car, how would you go about getting the error code checking to work?

Earth the TC pin and read the codes on the check engine lamp if you have a JDM VVTI motor

but before doing like said make sure everything is connected to the ECU. Trace the wires for "check engine" lamp and "tc" pin down to ECU connectors.
