    Default 1GGTE problem when cold

    hey all,

the last few days ive noticed my engine not responing properly when i put my foot on the accelerator and it usually happens untill the motor is up to normal running temp.

basically what happens is that ill press on the accelerator and nothing will happen for a second or 2 then the motor will act asif i pressed on the accelerator quickly and then start acting normal. this happens almost every time i change gears untill the motor is up to running temp. i know 1ggte's act poorly when there cold but ive had my car for over 3 years and this is the first time its happent.

any ideas what could be causing this?

    cheers

first things first... clean out the idle control valve on the inlet plenum, as there common to play up and usually when its cold it plays up the most..

have a look at your RPM idling when cold, should be around 1200rpm-ish, if its up around the 1500-2000rpm mark when cold then your idle control valve stepper motor needs removing and cleaning..

if everything else is fine and dandy, may be a case of slightly leaking injectors

I've had the EXACT same problem (Cold or not). It went away though somehow, not sure if I fiddled with something or not. I think I put injector cleaner in the tank and the problem went away in a few weeks, I forgot.

Pandaah, not true. It will idle at 2000 sometimes at first start, especially on cold winter mornings. But usually 1200-1500 on a normal day.

it may rev up that high and creep down but should never stay that high.. thats way to high for a cold idle start, im talking when my car is cold it would stay on 1500-2000rpm because the idle control valve stepper motor was dirty and not working correctly

trust me ive cleaned it twice, idle drops by heaps everytime i do it on cold starts

when its cold it will rev around 2300 then go down to 1200 but i have noticed a few times that it revs around 2000rpm when its up to normal running temp. i cleaned the iscv about 6 months ago do you think it needs to be done again? and where is the idle control stepper motor?

Stepper motor is inside the ISCV, if idle decreases slowly as car warms up it's working properly the motor and the electronics inside.

I've always thought it due to moisture getting inside the dizzy cap. Once it heats up, all is well.

youd feel it being more than a misfire tho, when the ISCV plays up its more like an 2 second dead spot...

yes tomo i do think you need to reclean it, maybe its even faulty if it doesnt respond after the clean?.. what i do is pull the stepper motor off (the two bolts holding it on) clean the inside of the plenum and the stepper motor itself so everything will work properly, then i blow thru the water lines of the ISCV to ensure there not blocked, if coolant doesnt pass properly thru it, it wont function properly either....

once all is clean, refit and walla, but yes, 1g's without catch cans require regular (usually around 6monthly?) ISCV cleaning from my experience
