    Default Diagnosing 7MGE oil leak

    Hey guys,
I need help diagnosing/confirming the source of an oil leak in my 91 Cressida 7MGE. Symptoms are:

    • Oil leaking down into spark plugs.
    • Oil patches on top of CAM covers nears hoses (pictured below).

My main question is would this be anything to do with my CAM seals? Or could it just be those two hoses need replacing?

    Cheers
    JB

Your motor must be breathing pretty heavy for it to blow out those hoses.
I'd chuck a little hose clamp on each one, give it a degrease and see how it goes.

blocked PCV system and probably coming out the rocker covers too. rocker cover gaskets are probably dead OR the shitty screws will have come loose

Agreed. Check the passages in the throttle body.

TBH i find the standard PCV system is generlly fairly shit and more often than not will cause oil leaks by pressurising the crankcase.

they block up inside the rocker covers, the metal line, the valve itself and the passage into the TB.

the TB passage is a bastard to clean (so is the metal line) so if u cant get it clean, block it off properly and put a T-piece where the brake booster gets its vac feed from the manifold and run the PCV into there

i am looking forward to not having to worry about this anymore, dry sump = crankcase VACUUM

Those PCV hoses also get pretty brittle and tend to crack (mine were) especially if they are still the originals.. First make sure they are simply not just cracked (if so just buy two small bits of hose and fix them yourself) and then check to make sure the PCV system isnt blocked.

As for the oil in the spark plugs will most likely be the rocker cover seals.. Are pretty cheap to replace and is a pretty simple job.
