    To me, it looks like a timing chain tensioner or something, but i havent worked on these engines much...

    Yes that is the upper timing chain tensioner.

    I'm more interested to know why there is a key chain hanging below the oil filter strange place to store a spare set of keys. haha

    it was just used as a wire tag during the conversion..... lol
