Should be fine dude, especially if you stay sensible with the right foot.
Hi All,
Stupid question, I realise Exhaust gases are a shiteload hotter than the air flowing through my FMIC,
But is it ok to use a 3" Silicon Join to hold an exhaust together temporarily for say a 5 minute drive down the road to the workshop to get the thing rewelded?
Silicon has a melting temperature of 1410 Degrees Celsius.. Exhaust Gases though should be somewhere around half of that, so just checking...

silicon rubber and silicon are totally different things
maybe the silicon pipe is good for maybe 200 or 250 or so...
might hold togetherreport back.

no... just no...
***insert facepalm***
Do the repair properly - gaffa tape.
Though if it's really only 5 mins down the road, just drive as is.
I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.
was gonna say, put exhaust in back of car, drive 5 mins with exhaust off. Win. (or attach to underbody of car with coathanger)
You can bet whoever has to weld the exhaust will be mightily pissed to find their welding surface covered in melted intercooler pipe![]()
^^^Best idea right there.
It would probably work if it was far enough back, but then if that was the case it wouldn't be super loud anyways. If it was at the front though it would probably melt almost instantaneously.
If you get a business card from the exhaust shop with a time/date for the work to be done, plus have them 'book' it in it should give you a way out of any police issue if you get pullled over.

Nah haven't been yetHad to go to Uni for Chem lab this arvo.. I think you may be right though Stu.. It's a silicate compound so the addition of non silicate products may inevitably cause it to have a way lower melting point.
Reason I don't drive down there with zorst off is that some nugget cut part of the tunnel out behind the shifter hole (it's a factory manual shell.. U don't NEED to cut it anymore.. Unless you're running a Tremec or something) which is only slightly up and to the left of the end of my dump pipe. Found out this morning that coming off boost results in loud pops and a crapload of exhaust gases filling the cabin.. I'd rather not pass out from CO poisoning..

silicate? or silicone?
unless you need it flexible, a sliced up Milo tin (or other thin sheet) and some hoseclamps will do ok perhaps?
oh, and open the window![]()

You'll be right... have driven a 30km trip with just exhaust stopping at the firewall
I vote for Milo tin or bean can and cable ties and windows down.
