alignment issues will not stop the car from sparking, make sure your coils are getting 12v when the ignition is switched on, and everthing esle is pluged in.
Hey all,
My car had a blown head gasket and ive just finished putting everything back together. When ive turned the key the engine just cranks and will not fire. Ive taken out a lead and spark plug and found that there is no spark happening. Can anyone give me a few ideas why this could be happening?
The mechanics who took the cams and head off marked everything so they seem to think everything is aligned.
Is it possible that sumthing is out of alignment and the dizzy isnt creating any spark OR does a dizzy always create spark as long as its being rotated by the cams??
cheers

what reading should i be getting for the output of the ignition coil?
I dont think you can measure the out put of the coil because the voltage output will be in the thousands.
But you can measure the input as stated above.
Check all your connecters, ground points, fuses and go over your timmings again.
Just a silly question how did you set your timming and do you have a 1ggte repair manual?
to save on labour i took off the turbo, manifolds, fuel rail, injectors and tapper cover and they did the rest. from what i gathered they marked the timing and put it back on the same setting. im going to head back to the workshop monday or tuesday and make sure there is 12v at the ignition coil and check the timing.
neal- no i dont have a repair manual
Did you move the coil ?
Make sure you haven't got the distributor out 180 degrees.
The dizzy cap only goes on one way. The tabs are offset.

I'm not talking about the cap but the mesh of the distributor gear 180 degrees out. I've made this mistake a number of times. It will spark but at BDC not TDC.
Yeah I know, I'm just telling CoffI've made this mistake myself too. It's also annoying when you have it a tooth out as well. It's close enough to not look wrong, but far enough to not work.

its alright guys all fixed now. the fellas who took the cams and head off took out the efi fuse for sum reason..
Wouldn't that flash a fault code?
I would of thought it would of stopped power to the ecu thus no codes would be processed......

That's what I initially thought but on my car the distrubutor also controls the spark and we see above there was a spark.
