    Hi Adam,

It'd help alot if you could tell us what car you're talking about. Also which 3Y you have found (I know some are rear sump, though there may also be front or mid sumps available too).

But if you come with some more info, and preferably some more punctuation too.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

Engine mounts are in a different position on the chassis rails between 18R and 3Y. I would stick with the 18R if it was my ute. You can get a steel case 5 speed to bolt up to an 18R or if you want to use a G52 or W series 5 speed just use a bell housing from a hilux with a 22R engine.
I have found it is a lot easier to get more performance out of an 18R than a 3Y because the 18R has bigger valves and ports and is a shorter stroke so they like to rev. Put a turbo on your 18R and it will be heaps better than a turbo 3Y.

    Agreed.

A 3Y has very little useable power down low or up high, especially in carbie form.

Even better, drop an 18R-G head on your block with a turbo and that would crack!

Nice suggestion, but the RG head onto RC block is a WHOLE world of work, and frankly isn't worth the effort unless you have a complete RG with nothing wrong except a block specific issue (ie cracked where a welch plug goes in)

What was wrong with the RC?? I have a good long motor with a mild cam and extractors (Celica) that you can have for bugger all more than the freight cost (check www.e-go.com.au for freight cost)
