    Default 1uz ecu oddities

Did some work on me hilux with soarer 1uz engine and ecu today, thought i would tidy up the wiring after the conversion(6months ago with daily driving). I disconnected the battery and ecu and cut all the unused wires off and terminated them. taped it all back up with a proper grommet thru the firewall and started it up, it idled faster than normal at 2000rpm and slowly came down to about 1500 and when i revved it it was reluctant to come down straight away it wasn't crisp like normal. I cycled the key and everything went back to normal, is this common or will i have fault codes when i go to drive it tommorrow? Any help welcomed. Thanx Mick.

It's common when you disconnect an ecu for the ISCV to be all fucked up.

How about the trans staying in O/D is that common, after removing unused wires the bloody thing goes straight from 1st to overdrive and stays there, will not kickdown at all, i can change down manually but even then on the manual change from 1st to 2nd its a sloppy change and feels like its goin straight into 3rd and then when i select drive it goes into O/D no matter what speed i do or where the switches are,(O/Dswitch and PWR/ECON switch). Its as if both switches have become useless for some reason, i know it has 12v on the yellow wire that goes to shift selector. Any ideas?

    Nope, definitely not common.

I'd say you've cut one too many wires.

When they aren't wired up correctly the gearbox goes into manual mode
    L is 1st
    2 is Drive
    D is Overdrive.

SHIT! I took my time and checked/cut/terminated every wire one by one so i know its nuthin silly like bare wires touching, there is a few wires that had factory splices in them and i purposely cut the loose tail off that went to nowhere and left the rest in the loom. There is wires that loop up and back inside the loom when you untape it,the only thing i can think of is that one wire somewhere loops and joins two wires that i didn't see, damn it i traced every wire back to an unused plug before i cut it. At least i can still get to work tommorow its a long 32 klm walk otherwise.

You've probably just cut the power wire to the solenoids.

Spot on mate, if your wiring up one of these, don't cut the white/red wire! It is the ecu output to the solenoid2 in the transmission, it kinda needs that to shift properly. It was indeed in manual mode like you said as if some idiot had disconnected the plug at the back of the trans. These things are meant to test us i guess, if everything went smooth we wouldn't learn diagnostic skills, thats how i'm lookin at it. Its not a fuck-up its learnin, hehehe
