Default 1uz bottom end bearing failure - tough????

    So, my 1uz has failed...

Pulling up to a round-about, it failed.. Fuel pressure dropped, vac dropped, oil pressure dropped.

    I pulled over.

I tried to restart it, but it blew a 100amp fuse in the process, so I figured something was very wrong.

Got it towed home. Pulled the tin bit off the sump. #3 crank counterweight was COVERED in silver stuff - clearly the bearing in there had died in some way. The sump bad bits of bearing in it all over the place.

So I'm tipping the #3 bearing has failed - but how????

This is the second time this car has EVER run on the road. It hasn't hit high boost, hasn't even cleared 0psi manafold pressure.

100psi oil pressure was maintaned, so, what has gone wrong? what kills a bearing?

There is a white ring around the top of the sump where the oil level was sitting, is this normal or is it condensation?

    Save me...?

I clearly need to buy a new motor, but what do I need to prevent to stop it happening next time?

NB: The counterweight covered in silver stuff is the counterweight where the bearing has gone wrong...........

are they all worn out? or just the one?
might have spun and blocked the oil hole then itts game over for that bearing.

or the oil gallery has been blocked by something?

    good points mate...

    a) It's just the one so far as I can see now.

    b) I could have blocked the one oil gallery with gasket goo??? But I doubt it...

I'm tipping I've spun one and killed it, because the others SEEM ok - and yet it's a bitch to turn over, takes more than 100amps to turn over.

    Clearance or lube.
IDK, but I'm sure it's not normal and if it was condensation/water it would be sitting in the bottom of the sump. Is synthetic oil heavier then water, does water float on top of it?

100psi pressure seems high, but that could be cold.
My 1UZ was closer to 30psi at idle (warm), maybe 100psi at full throttle.

I've only heard of a couple of bearing failures, and they have all been due to lack of oil.
Yours could have failed before you bought it.

Cruz - Thanks mate, I thought 100psi was normal.

I suspect that I may have got the oil lines to the remote oil filter around the wrong way.

IE - the IN went to the OUT and the OUT went to the IN.

I'm tipping this would cause both A) High Oil Pressure (though it was cold) and B) dodgy oil flow.

    Would you agree?

I don't think it failed before I bought it, because I had a different oil filter setup on it a while ago, and while it was idling and running and stuff, it seemed ok. So this engine has run a bit, prior to dying.

Basically though, it's oil starvation that kills these things by the looks of it, therefore, the oil wasn't getting there properly clearly.

No, the relief controls the pressure regardless of the line arrangement and all the rods, not 1 main, would have gone first. Sorry. Good luck.

Thanks Allen, but I'm not entirely sure what you mean there.

So what your saying is that having the remote oil filter lines around the wrong way WOULDN'T have had an impact?
