Default Best place to purchase new bolts?

    Hey guys, I've got a TA22 in which I'm putting a 3T-GTE w/W58 gearbox.

I got the engine and gearbox yesterday though it's missing a fair few crucial bolts...

Where is the best place to get the bolts that attach the bell-housing onto the block? Also missing various other bolts here and there which I need to put it all together and then into the engine bay.

Are these bolts generic or do I need Toyota bolts, in which case where would I find part numbers if need be?

I'm completely new to the whole engine conversion thing, and I've got no idea where to start looking!!

    Cheers,
    Al

    Most likely a M12 x 1.25 prob 8mm. Get grade 9 if you can.

I'd steal, I mean buy them from a wrecker, then you will know they are the right grade. i bought some bolts to hold an engine on an engine stand and they were like 8 bucks each or something.

Agreed - If you buy them they'll cost you prob $100 for the lot. A wrecker would only charge you a few $ if any.

The only issue you will have with buying from a bolt shop is the head size - eg the gearbox bolts genuine will be a 17mm, whereas from a bolt shop they'll be a 19mm at least.

If you decide to go new and from a bolt shop see below. I have bought lots of fasteners from Lee Brothers, and they're very helpful.

    Lee Bros Engineering Pty Ltd
6 Dunlop St, North Parramatta NSW 2151 - get directions

Coventry Fasteners - have heaps of branches so look them up for one close to you.

    Nepean Boltmaster Pty Ltd
    Units 1 & 2/ 45 Leland St, Penrith NSW 2750 - get directions
    ph: (02) 4722 3034

    Hope that helps.

I agree with the pickapart wrecker option.

I always collect all the decent bolts, fasteners etc I can find and toss them in the bottom of the tool bag. I'm always buying other stuff and the guys are never interested when I tell them that I have a few bolts in there.

Then you will know you have the right ones.

Thanks for the info guys! Much appreciated...

I'm actually in Newcastle, I did a bit of researching and found Hi-tensile Bolts Newcastle. A few people recommended them.

Parrot, where in Newcastle do you go to the pick-a-parts? A quick Google search came up with not much for me! Did you have anywhere in particular that you go? You haven't noticed a TA22 at a wreckers have you? I need an auto drive-shaft haha

    Thanks again guys!

There's a wreckers at lake munmorah that is basically a pick a part - they let you wander around the yard with tools and grab what you need. I haven't found any others around here that let you DIY

It's on the southbound side of the highway next door to the shell sevo... I think they are named budgewoi wreckers. They won't have any TA22s but they usually have a fair few camrys and corollas which will be easy to pull a few bell housing bolts from.

Otherwise Newcastle Hi Tensile will have something that will work, about 90% of the bolts in piggys mx73 are from there and it's holding together fine. lol

Cheers Dale! Just out of interest, around about how much are the bolts from Hi Tensile?

    So far I need bolts for;
the flywheel/clutch/pressure-plate, bell-housing, alternator, and a few others here and there... So looking at maybe 30ish bolts. I'm guessing they aren't cheap!

    Cheers!

They are usually pretty cheap, as in cents per bolt not dollars

Flywheel bolts might be another story, I'd get genuine or ARP for those

Thanks for the suggestions Steve, I'll see how I go at the wrecker.

And before I go and start pulling bolts, what are the chances Camry's, etc will have the same bolts that I need? I don't even have a single bolt I can take down and compare them with when I'm pulling bolts off...

Edit: what kind of bolt then should I quote when bradstreet parts asks me?

    Cheers
