Default T-50 Gearbox output shaft damage after crash

    Hi guys,

    Just doing a little research.

I'm presently stripping out an AE71 (4AC, T-50 etc) that took a pretty solid smack to the front end. So solid a smack in fact, that the radiator support was smashed back into the crank pulley, which snapped clean off.

Anyway - the motor was pushed back approximately 50-60mm, thus the gearbox was also pushed back about this far. The tailshaft did not decided to go anywhere. As such the engine and gearbox were rammed into the tailshaft.

What i'm wondering is what kind of damage this would have done to the gearbox. I ask this as it was extremely difficult to remove the tailshaft from the gearbox. It would seem that the tailshaft was jammed about 30-40mm further into the T-50 than it had any right to go.

The tailshaft slip joint appears OK, i am yet to pull the extension housing off the T-50 to see what kind of metalocalypse is inside, i would just like to see what you toymodders think has been done.

Output shaft bearing destroyed? Output shaft itself a throwaway?

    Any constructive input appreciated.

    Javal.

I would of thought that there would be enough of a spline in there to allow the motor to go that far back, I will be interested to see the result of what you find
