    Default twins or single dilema

my turbos on the 1j are really starting to smoke now, its time to address them...

i do have a pair of Chinese ct12a copy's that i was considering putting on, but i think they are on there way out aswell and may need a rebuild. and there unreliable as and crap i was wondering if you,

can you go single for under 2k? has anybody done this for around this budget? if so what setup did you do? and ruff cost's for each?

i dont want big power or anything just something that will do the job.

    cheers

Probably best to look at this thread a bit down the page champ

    http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/showthread.php?t=58256

You could always go a cheap Chinese manifold, with an eBay turbo etc, but then you have to factor in a new dump pipe, as well as inter cooler piping and an induction pipe. It is also best to probably chuck something like a SAFC on to make sure all the air fuel ratios are sitting right and get the most out of the turbo without going stand alone management, etc

theres a few sets of 1jz turbos floating around for very cheap atm mate... and im sure if you posting in the wanted section youll score some very cheap in good condition...

for under 2k youd be buying chinese crap, yeh the manifolds do the job, but i wouldnt risk a chinese turbo

are they steel wheelies? i've got china steel wheelie CT12A's on my JZX90 and they effing pull. if they are, put them on and enjoy the louder whine and later spool (bit laggier than the ceramics.. but hell do they pull when boost kicks in.)

yer there Chinese ct12a's which are steel wheeled, i think ill drop them into Adelaide turbo services next week and see what they think.

im abit iffy about buying second hand twins as the quality of them is suspect.

    cheers

For @ $2K you can get Hypergear to Hi flow your shagged standard ones, I would rather spend money doing that than rebuilding chinese ones, thats just my opinion though.

yer that would be ideal, although i wasnt looking to spend that much on rebuilding them, i was planing on doing it myself, depends on what Adelaide turbo services think of them.

i think i was quoted 1300 a turbo to highflow + steel wheel.

have you just looked into doing a 6 boost or ECE single manifold with a T3 foot, and running something like a KKR or proBoost gt30/35 equiv... you can even get low km xr6t garret's pretty cheap on the ford forums... there a bit laggy... but not rediculous... 1JZ's seem to moove alot of air

do you have a local fabricator (like an exhaust shop, or place that makes rollcages) capable of Tig'n a few pipes (new cooler, air intake, dump pipe) you should be able to do it for a similar cost (prolly a bit more depending on what the guy charges..)

i was looking at 6 boost manifolds from horsepower in a box, i think it was 1300 for the mani alone so that kind of counted it out..
