anyone? have i done something wrong with the setup? should the front calipers be rebuild?
hay guys,
just finished my engine conversion and also did a brake upgrade at the same time becuase my ute came with 4 wheel drum brakes. i have upgraded to standard front disc's and calipers with rear el falcon disc's and R31 calipers. the master cylinder is off a MX83 cressida which all bolted up fine.
now the issue i am having after bleeding the brakes is when you goto brake there is pedal pressure (pedal goes halfway down and feels tight) but it doesn't have that bite feel when you start braking it just is very very slowly..
the fronts have new pads in which haven't had used before same with the disc's.
p.s - still using hilux brake booster
any help would be great
thanks

Oops sorry misread.
Are you sure the pistons are moving out of the calipers when you brake?
Pull the calipers off and make sure the pistons can move freely.
If you press harder does it work?
Are you sure the master cylinder is sized correctly for the brake caliper?

LOL. Ninja edit ftw.
It may be air in the system still, but read his pedal is tight so changed my post accordingly heh.
Also another thing, what pads do you have?

just have std pads nothing super expensive.. how do i bench test the mc?
i took it for a drive last night and it seemed to have alittle more bite but nothing major.
if i try to push the pedal to the floor it won't go it gets about half way and stops (feels tight)

Method to bleed the master cylinder here man.
Is the MX83 Master cylinder the same diameter as the factory car (with disc brakes)?

If you drive the car and have good pedal with quick hits, then if you press slowly but firmly and it goes down, its a leak in your MC. You'll need to swap out the MC. Had to do this myself recently.
You can bench bleed by removing the MC, filling the reservoir with fluid, then place your fingertips over the openings and press in the plunger to simulate braking, and it should remove any air pockets. Keep the fluid up and reinstall.
Fixed my problem.
Cheers,
Peter
PS. Yeah, wondered what was going on there with the 'ninjaedit'. Had to re-read your post to check I wasn't dreaming!![]()
