Default Cooling System Header Tank and Pressure Relief Point

In cars with the top radiator tank lower than the highest coolant passage in the engine, do they normally have the header/overflow tank higher than the highest coolant passage???

Also, is there any reason why a radiator cap can't be fitted to a small tank that is then Teed into the cooling system and then placed at the highest point???
Is there some particular reason for it to be fitted to the radiator (apart from name sakes )???

Obviously the original radiator cap and overflow would need to be blocked.

Most factory header tank systems i can think of feed into to the bottom hose and have returns from the highest points in the system.

Not all cars have a header tank even if the rad is lower but the vl is the best example of why you should have one.

You can buy those aftermarket header tank kits with the cap on which you take feeds of various pionts of the engine to bleed out air bubbles etc.

Does anybody know who could supply a stainless steel radiator cap neck (that bit you twist the radiator cap onto)?
Aluminium ones are pretty common, but I have trouble welding it. Stainless is much easier for me to deal with.

Just grab the header tank from a WRX. Nicely made and works a treat. I then put a air bleeder (use a Moroso one), on the high point on the back of the head. I then removed the filler neck from the top of the rad, and replace with a 12mm barb and a hose up to the header tank. Has worked great for heaps of track days and solved a lot of cooling issues I had from airlocks.
