    Default 2JZ turbos on 1JZ?

    hey guys,

Just got hold of a set of 2j turbos, and as the turbo's on my 1j are a little tired, i was wondering what the differences are, eg, will they bolt-on? will they go on with mods?

    Anyone have any ideas?

I was thinking it might be nice to mix-n-match to get bigger compressor sides if i decide to rebuild the 1j turbos?

    anyway.. any ideas welcome

    Cheers Steve.

The turbos are quite different and the flanges are incompatible. There is also the fact that the 2JZ turbos only have one wastegate between them, which isn't going to work very well on the 1JZ. Basically it's a lot more trouble than it's worth - if you want to adapt a couple of small cheap turbos there are better options out there!

I have never heard of anyone fitting 2j comp wheels into a 1j turbo. If it can be done, I would think it would be quite costly. I would be selling the 2jz turbos to someone with dead ones and buying some ebay steelies if you want a bit more out of it for relatively cheap. These should be good for about 255-260rwkw if setup well.

If you want more than, GT3076R

as soon as i go much bigger i have to go the usual injectors/computer etc type route.. so if im going to go bigger.. i'll go much bigger..

im just tossing up the idea of rebuilding the factory turbo's.. i'll just use the turbo's for something else if its not a feasable idea, but i thought if im going the hi-flo route...

I would think it would be cheaper to get ebay steelies than rebuild stockers. People having good success running just a bit over 15psi and up to 18psi with just a HKS FCD set at lower than the required level to trim fuel about 15psi. Cheap as chippies power that way About $1300 all up to be able to make around 240-250rwkw depending on exhaust, cooler setups. Don't need new injectors either.

aah, you haven't heard of them I don't think they are listed right now because of supply or something but Ribfeast on here has some. They were $1200 now about $1350 I think. ct12a's with steel exhaust wheels. Unsure if they are highflowed. He is now running 18psi and has had good results. 12.6@109mph in a jzx83. There is a massive thread about them in the for sale section on www.soarercentral.com

The above method is probably what I will recommend to a mate of mine with a jzz30 with FMIC, 3" exhaust and filter so BPU mods. Along with a shift kit and 2800 stall with some decent tyres mid 12's are a definite possibility. Ribrfeast says +ve pressure at 2500 instead of 2200 like ceramics.

I'm running it on stock stall Fiddling with the line pressure/kickdown cable should get you more stall too.
Just do a search on eBay, the bloke regularly sells them, they are china copies of the Toyota CT12A design, but with steel exhaust wheels. Approx $1200-1300, good value for BRAND NEW turbos with warranty. Apparently they are 'internally ported for better flow than factory' but I'm not sure of the truth of that.
They have slightly louder bearing noise, but there are people with over 120,000kms on them and they are like new.
I think they are made by DD Turbochargers, that I think made the T3/T4 hybrids etc.
Lag is not too much worse than stock, and the top end is very good.
Buy an adjustable exhaust cam gear and pick up another 10hp and earlier spool. I ended up with 244rwkw with these turbos and minor mods. Setting the HKS FCD to setting 8 (4.05V I think) seems to give a good AFR at 18psi on stock injectors with Walbro pump.

    2 of them?
there's only 0.5L difference, and the subie turbos (particularly the early ones) are not exactly light on the lag... if you wanted to get the most out of 2 subie turbos, I suspect injectors would be needed

the fella on SF is 2jzr31 on here and PF

There is a fella who has twin rb20 turbos on his car. It is a 1jz in a green vk commo. Runs 12.0. Must be making some decent power. It isn't really worth it unless you can get somebody to fab up exhaust mani adaptors and dump pipes etc. Otherwise, you will end up with $200 worth of turbo and $2000+ worth of piping.
