Or...Use a bearing puller![]()
Here's a relatively easy way to get the spigot bearing out of the back of the crank (which is worthwhile whenever you do a clutch swap).
1) Get a bolt that neatly fits through the centre of the bearing.
2) Rip up newspaper into small pieces and soak in water until wet.
3) Start to push the newspaper into the bearing and hammer in using the bolt.
4) Keep doing this and after about 10-15 minutes you will see the bearing start to push out. After about another 5 minutes of hammering in the paper the bearing will fall out.
5) Clean out all the newspaper and fit a new bearing.
EASY!

I knew someone would write that. The point is that most of us don't have a bearing puller so this is a great way to get around the problem rather than having to wait until the next day to buy one.
Yep and it had to meOriginally Posted by Grant
Yeah I know. It is a good idea and you got the +'s for itThe point is that most of us don't have a bearing puller so this is a great way to get around the problem rather than having to wait until the next day to buy one.![]()
Thanks. I modified the header now too.
There is also a spelling mistake in it
Good tip, packing it full of grease also works to the same effect.

yeah i think grease would take about half the time than ripping tiny pieces of paper and putting it in. also a quicker way if you dont have a slide hammer (get one they are cheap and handy to have) is to get 2 bolts, usually the ones with the 12mm heads are a good size. put one in the hole, then HAMMER the second one into the same hole, then leaver out with something or sometimes you can hit it sideways with a hammer.
Grease = messy
Seal pulley = god

Grease is the best method. I'm not sure how effective a bearing puller would be considering the size of the hole.
you spigot bearing musnt be in too hard if you can get it out with seal puller.
Ok, let me rephrase, seal puller + treat it like a slide hammer = teh win.

but why?
The grease method might be a little messy, but it's guaranteed to get it out with no headaches. Hydraulics beat slide hammers any day.
cept slide hammer takes all of 10 seconds.
I once had no luck with the grease + bolt method (only because I managed to hammered the bearing in cocked..... Bigworm FTL) and ended up using a dyna bolt + slide hammer, which worked a treat.
I tried to hydraulic one out of a dyna crank the other day at work
Bearing full of grease, check
Bolt that fits snug, check
Hammer, check
Commence wacking, check
Grease coming through bearing!!!???! WTF
Then a co worker told me that we have bearing puller, DOH
Bearing puller for the win, although ours only just fit into the hole of the bearing, which has the same inner diameter as a t50.

The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new
