Default hilux vs surf transfer case/ gearboxes??

    hey all
Ive got a 1998 ln167 hilux, which im putting my 1uzfe into. I am also putting the auto tranny into it. I know that the early-mid 90's auto surfs transfer case bolts directly up to the 1uz auto with minimal modifications - does anyone know if my transfer case would be the same as the surf, or are auto and manual transfer cases different??
    Thanks
    Blake

The only difference between most hilux/surf transfers across the board as far as i know, is anything with a G series box infront of it was gear driven, and W series etc being chain driven.

What motor/gearbox configuration does your hilux have, auto? etc, are you planning on using the auto from the 1uz purely for ease of wiring etc or by choice.

im using the auto as it offers better control for rock crawling, is easier to wire in and is stronger than a g52 which is what is in it at the moment...im aiming for around the 400hp mark. std transfer case should cope with this shouldnt it?

I used to have a surf auto/ case and the part from the case to the back half of the auto looks like the crucial part in the conversion. can anyone confirm? if so ill obviously have to buy another surf one just for this part - hindsight is a wonderful thing!!
