You can use your carb tank, "all" you need to do is locate an AE86 pump carrier and it will bolt straight into the top of your carb tank in place of the carb pickup that is there now. I will however admit that AE86 pump carriers are a little hard to locate.

The carb tank only differs in that it doesn't have baffles around the intank pump pickup.

I am not aware of any other tanks bolting straight in, with fuel inlets and so forth in the correct position.

You could run any low pressure electric pump to a surge tank and then your high pressure pump to your motor, just be sure to run the return back to the surge tank and an over flow return from the surge tank to the main tank.

I have heard that a RT142 or RA65 tank (which are basically the same) can go in without to many mods, I haven't done it myself so can't comment.

I don't see much point of going to the of an intank pump without an intank surge tank/swirl pot.

It all depends on what you intend doing with the car. Not everyone will take it out on the track. I have run mine like that on the street for years and only ever had surge problems if I get a bit carried away with the tank under quarter full.

I've got mine running intank with no baffles and haven't had any surge problems yet. You could also put a bracket onto your original carrier and drill a hole for the wiring, then plug said hole with tank repair putty.
