    Afternoon,

    So - i have a 1JZ with full 3" exhaust. As it stands, it has a cat, lukey mid muffler and a 5" xforce cannon at the back. Oddly enough, i want to remove the cannon, because it looks dumb, does nothing (i actually removed it and started the car.. sounded much the same..) - and i am slowly squashing it flat coming out of driveways anyway.

    So, i'm not overly worried by the volume of it as it stands, but if it was at all possible to cut out (well,, reduce) the exact frequency that it generates at 110km/h in 5th, that would be great. So is it possible to choose something (hotdog?) to suit this idea?

    Did try searching, but couldn't really come up with search terms that gave anything remotely close to what i'm talking about.

    At low gas flows, 3" exhausts do SFA to reduce noise. So removing the rear muffler won't give an accurate idea of it's 'muffling' abilities if you just started it and ran it without any load on the engine.
    I have used what my exhaust guy refers to as Gonzo mufflers (apparently the guy who makes them is known as Gonzo). They ar a hot dog shaped muffler with a small internal tube (about 1" diameter) and that is held in place with a helically twisted piece of steel. The exhaust gas can flow both through the central tube and around th ehelical twist. They are very effective at knocking off racket and drone from an exhaust.
    I used 1 on my AW11 + a Genie Muffler. That was very droney at highway speeds with just the Genie.
    1 on my RB20 Silvia + the whatever brand Japanese 3" system.
    And I will use 2 on my (twin parallel for ground clearance) Alfa V6 (when I get to it )

    Ahh, didn't really think of it that way, makes sense. Couldn't take it for a drive at the time unfortunately as the car was on stands. I will see what i can find out about these mufflers. How restrictive are they?

    Sorry, I don't know.
    I certainly didn't notice any before and after performance change when I fitted them. So if I didn't notice them, then they were fine for my applications .
