    Default Cam gear timing adjustment

I have just instaled an adjustable timing gear on my 1jz. It is an OEM item that has been modified to be adjustable.

The cam gear has no graduation marks and I was wondering when I adjust it, where to take the angle measurement in degrees from. The crank shaft on the cam shaft???

    Thanks

buy a proper set of adjustable cam gears with degree marks? would be a far more sensible idea imo.

luckily your opinion is just that

usually the degrees are measured from the crank, using adegree wheel (there is a free one listed somewhere in toymods if you need one), and then measure the 50thou opening/closing and lobe centre of the cam.
the cam opening/closing specs are usually given in crank degrees.. since 320 cam degrees would be a loooong duration

a wheel with degree marks is ok for adjustment, but does not change the fact that you need to actually measure the crank degrees and cam lift.

if you want, you can make a mark to set a "zero" position, or "centre" position on your new pulley, and then you can easily measure the actual degree change either by hand, or by taking a photo and putting lines on it in photoshop etc

*IF* you have a degree wheel and do this the correct way..... there is no need for hash marks on the timing gears(sorry Bill, pulleys )

Or to properly answer your question you will degree the camshafts in by using a degree wheel attached to the crankshaft, and a dial gauge on the valve train
