keep abs or not?

I think one thing that isn't explained is that he's doing a ST185 transplant into an AE111 Trueno.
Therefore the ABS system is already in the AE111, but the ST185 running gear doesn't have provision for the ABS sensors & tone wheels.

I've already suggested to him in his build thread that any AWD #T215 (don't know if the 4A version had AWD) Caldina will have the ABS type setup (they all have ABS due to the speedo running off it), and that this is a direct replacement for the 185 stuff.

The brake upgrade (ST205 fronts & ST184 rear discs) I did to the last Dina meant that in the 4 years after fitting it, the ABS came on only once in a real panic stop situation in the wet. Any other time, the brake friction & good tyre friction with the road meant that it really didn't come on.

Personally, I'd keep it. You've already got the wiring & computer for it, and if it saves you only once, then it's worth it for a project car that's irreplacable for the time & effort put in.

At least you're doing it the easy way. I'm stripping the ABS system (wiring included) out of an early Subaru Liberty (Legacy) to retrofit into my older Subaru Leone wagon...

yeah the ae111 abs is good and used to pull the car up with the twin pots really well in the wet with me trying to get the abs to kick in.

Talking to a guy up north about a set of st185 hubs axles cvs etc with the abs just waiting on costs with shipping also trying to get the abs plugs and cables in case the ae111 ones don't fit so I can rewire them. I'll be updating my build log soon but am trying to sort out my fibreglass bonnets got to make an ae92 mold and bonnet this weekend. As well as finish of the ae111 one as well I'm holding off on doing to much more until my coilovers arrive then I can get the hubs and suspension all in properly and start to organize brakes and the rear sub frame.

Everyone's input into the abs issue is appreciated and I'm going to try and keep it as I'll just wire in a bypass for if I go do track days etc.

Hope to keep everyone posted as I get more done once the running gears sorted all my cash will go onto the engine/ecu setup. I still need to send the gearbox and diff away to get rebuilt and painted as well as have the gearbox spline changed.

Why disconnect the ABS for the track?

Most classes ban ABS because it gives an advantage.
If you put in better pads & tyres for the track, you'll have trouble getting it to activate anyway.

But if you really want to disconnect it temporarily, then simply unplug one of the front sensors (because they're the easiest to get at).
This'll throw a fault code to the controller, which will put it into "safe" (ie off) mode (where the brakes simply operate normally).

You may need to check if there is a reset procedure for when you plug it back in though.

AE111 ABS is gorgeous, you won't activate it unless you've really screwed up. Personally shrike keep it, we both know the 111's ABS isn't intrusive, works like a dream and I'm also assuming the car will see the track but its used on the roads too? Just for that extra bit of control when you really want it

I wonder if its possible to update the ABS brick & ECU by using those from another car.

As said, the ST185's ABS is friggin terrible.
Would be nice to keep it, but improve it.

Well i'm just using the ae111 abs system and plugging my hubs into that
