    Default interior lights

has anyone had a problem with the lights on the temp/fuel and ingnition and oil lights on a TA/RA23 dash.

they use to light up all the time one they didnt i tapped them
and they worked again. but i tapped them tonight and they refused to go on.

i am assuming that there is a loose wire but i want to know
if it could be anything else before i rip out the dash.

fuse? usually for things like dash lights it's a poor earth between the dash and ground... it's pretty common for many old cars..

stu i dont think it could be a fuse because the lights on the speedo/tacho and clock are still working.

yeah maybe its the bulbs blown and when you tap them the little element is joining for a little while. Now it probably wont reach. Either that or yes bad earth. The multimeter is your friend.

    prob what im experiencing atm.

    30yrs + wire = frayed and brittle.

most likely a break in the wire ... tapping closes the gap ... bumps and wire heat opens the gap.

my dash light drops out and tacho seldom works unless i reach under and push the loom upwards.

just havet goten to it yet.

most liekly the earth as mentioned that its happening too.

prob bulbs... as mine are slightly faint and my dimmer lives in a bucket in the garage.

also aged wiring (as we have) will stop proper current flows etc effectively 'dimming' lights.

you might be surprised how dim the bulbs get before actually dying... back in ye olde days, the filaments must have been a bit thicker, so they last a long time, but get very dim...
swap them to new ones anyway.. only a couple of $ for em
    and then do wiring/earths...
