Hi Ian,
I will say hello to dad for you, I had a funny feeling you would know him. My memories of the victorian sprite club days are very minimal now. Gee a bridgeported rotary in a sprite would be insanely quick and probably very temprimental!
Hi oldskewl toy,
Well that is exactly how I got into cars myself, Dad has had hundreds of cars over the years and I used to love "helping" him with them.
Cheers
Dave
that rotor would have been aqn incredibly wild ride ian
Re: the RT142 corona - they have an f-series rear, so skip that idea.
I'm with the suggestion of a t-series. In a car that's going to weight ~800kg max, going for a big strong diff is just adding weight for no reason.
AE86 4 shades of silver - The Lone Ranger's steed is on the road again!
AE86 shell - waiting for a donor car from the auctions.
Draven,
I'm starting to think the same way myself about the diff, dont want to upset the handling and performance. I have also been looking at late model datsun 1200 ute diffs and anglia as well. I think the car will end up around the 700 kg mark by the time its on the road so it should be right
Chrisso,
Cheers for that info, I really would like discs on the back as I am planning on a full brake upgrade.
Cheers
Dave
that sounds nuts ian. any pics/vids or was it before the digital age?
the idea of a BP rotary in a lightweight pommy car has always appealed to me
or in the back of a fiat x1/9
dave get the kids helping FOR SURE!! i have my 4yr old daughter every saturday and she is always begging to work on the race car. last weekend i had her "helping" dig holes & pour concrete for the garage im building
sure they aint much real help but they love feeling like they are pitching in and its great bonding time -just dont let the mum find out lol they dont tend to like it
There is no substitute for PUBIC inches
Never late in an x8
I just picked up the corolla I'm stripping out for the motor and box, now I've just got to strip it and get rid of the shell so I can start mounting the motor and box. The car has a borgworner diff under it, I'm not too sure if I'm going to use it yet but I will test fit it under the car to see how it will sit.
I still need to work out a front brake conversion that will change the stud pattern to 4 *114.3 if I am going to use a toyota diff, otherwise I will have to go with ford cortina pattern as there is a early cortina conversion for these cars apparently, which will require an anglia diff for a matching stud pattern.
Hi Andrew,Originally Posted by dave get the kids helping FOR SURE!! i have my 4yr old daughter every saturday and she is always begging to work on the race car. last weekend i had her "helping" dig holes & pour concrete for the garage im building :)
sure they aint much [B
Lol, yeah she doesn't like it when the kids are in the shed. She cracked it when I let the kids sit on my motorbike
As long as the kids are happy, its allright.
Cheers
Dave
Hey guys,
A bit of an update here, I now have an anglia diff which should be plenty strong enough. It's basically a shorter version of an escort diff and I have found a disc brake conversion for this rear too using r31 calipers and audi discs (same stud pattern).
I also picked up a complete rwd 4age with a full rebuild kit for bugger all and most of the suspension and front end parts, I've just got to work out how to get a big brake 4*108 stud pattern on the front end.
I've also got some of the repair panels for the shell now so hopefully there will be some decent progress soom, once i get the shed sorted out a bit
I will start a build thread when I start to get stuck into it.
Cheers
Dave.

Hi Ian,
there's not much to show right now, I haven't had a chance to get stuck into it yet. I have longspan shelving coming tomorrow so I should have the shed sorted this weekend and hopefully get stuck into it soon.
I have added a link to an album of photo's of my car as I got it (just the shell as the parts are spread all over the place). There's also a photo of dad driving my uncles 1500 midget at the gympie skid pan, I had a go out there too and it was a great day. I will try to find a better photo and email it to you.
I need to find the tail section from a celica t50 box before I start dummying the motor and box into place as it requires a lot less cutting and puts the shifter in close to the standard spot.
After driving dads new racing lenham coupe on the weekend I'm really keen to get mine on the road
Cheers
Dave

hi dave
any further progress

nostalgia is not what it used to be:
Hi Ian,
I sold it at the end of last year due to having too many projects on the go, I'm currently rebuilding my torana as a daily driver for the missus and have a 1956 desoto diplomat that is waiting its turn to be fully customised and will end up as my daily driver.
Dad recently sold the lenham and bought a fully built mg midget race car from new zealand, it is a highly devoloped car and very well built.
Cheers
Dave
