Default Should i buy a Clutch aglinment tool?

    Hey all,

I am looking at doing a gearbox swap on the weekend and thought it would be nice to buy one of these tools. I personally felt that the 60 bucks the places charge was a bit steep for something i may only use once. I have put a gearbox and motor in before without one (although it may explain why it was a bitch to get in) and since i am doing a W55 to W55 swap i thought that maybe i don't need it if i take the bell housing off the old box and use that as a big heavy tool for fitting my clutch right.

Just after opinions, is it worth 60 bucks or will the old box suffice. I also would NOT like to hack off the end of the old box if possible.

not worth $60. you should be able to line it up by eye.
or if there is space around the edge of the clutch cover, align it with your fingers on the outside.

or if you feel not particularly handy, then $60 will be best money you ever spent

perhaps you could borrow the input shaft off a munted box of someone elses.. you don't need to hack it off, the whole input shaft is not that long.

I lined up my OS giken twin plate clutch basically by hand (had the help of a broom stick and an allen key)

I found a 14mm socket on an extension bar was almost as good. Though the broom sounds like it did the job nicely too.

For my gen1 rx7, a 10mm socket was the absolute perfect fit, but i'm gathering this won't be the same for all cars

Sang som? It's actually good stuff!

Broomstick is cheaper than $60. It's more subtle to use, but then again, lining it up by eye isn't that hard either.

My mate had a plastic one that came with one of his previous clutches.. it was good.

A bit of dowel that fits in the spigot bearing and some electrical tape also does a good job!

Sang som indeed, got a couple of bottles of that and a couple of whisky while i was over there, came back on the 19th of last month

Haven't had much of it, seems good enough to me, and shit, for like 10% of the cost, i'm sold

Back on topic, i think its safe to say there are plenty of better solutions than buying one for $60, thats for sure
