Ey all,
Im looking to get a full set of gaskets for my 7MGTE. I'm looking at getting decent composite set, that dosnt have a massive price tag if possible. I have seen a few different brands on ebay, but I have no idea on whats good and bad. I'm waiting on a price for a full toyota gasket set, with trade price, but I still rekon its going to be expencive...
What are your opinions of the brands of head gaskets, things like; Toyota, Nakamoto, Ishino I have seen on ebay, but I dont know any others. I know there is an american company that makes gaskets for the 7M, but I cant remember their name...If you know of a better/other brand that I have not mentioned please mention it.
Im also wondering if there are any particularly cheap places to get the kits from, in vic if possible, then I might be able to get trade. As far as I know, geelong isnt the best place to get jap parts...
Also anyone with a decent CPS (Cam Position Sensor), and/or a lexus afm for sale, give me a yell.
EDIT: Just reading this post back to myself, it might not belong in here, but what I really want to know is which brands are the best, as I can probly find them...
Cheers fellas

You might find that the Toyota price is not as bad as you expect. I got a turbo gasket kit for my 3S-GTE which included all sorts of gaskets and was pleasently surprised
trade price (toyota genuine) for all gaskets headgasket and up, including the head gasket, was somewhere in the vacinity of $280.
ill find the receipt and correct it when i have an exact figure.

edit: oh, and that american manufacturer your referring to, as Nathan said, is Cometic.
HKS make all three types of MHG, i beleive Grommet is the best though...?
theres actually a few people around now that can actually make these gaskets, so what you can basically do, tell them what you want to do with the car, and they'll make one up to suite your requirements, i was told about a man here in Perth that can do that, althoguh i still havent looked into it, IMO it would beat Mass-Produced items, apparantly its not all that more expensive either.

I too, am in the market for a gasket kit and $280 for a genuine Toyota kit seems pretty sweet, would that include everything on the head? ie. Injector O-rings, all oil line and all the turbo baffle gaskets?
i really doubt it would, as i know it includes the cam covers gaskets, inlet and exhaust manifolds, headgasket, thermostat, all those ones, im not sure whether it includes the turbo gaskets...Originally Posted by kemicalx
maybe give them a ring...?
basically, it includes all the gaskets needed to do a head reco/BHG fix, although im not sure whether they actually took the turbo off completely, or just unbolted the whole lot from the head (just took the exhaust manifold off with everything still attatched).

Well I got the quote back from toyota via email, not 280, but he wouldnt have factored in trade... I will call him tuesday, from work, and ask for a price for 2 of each kit with trade... Heres the quote;
Engine gasket set $550
The turbo is a different set, I got the price for that too;
Turbo gasket set $145
Also for future reference here are the part numbers of these items:
(0411142023) engine gasket set
(0417542011) turbo gasket set
I want to know more about geeting one made... keep us informed.
Cometic make metal gaskets dont thay?
Cheers all
$550 wow complete ripper! you can buy a guaranteed engine for 800. I guess toyota is not earning from selling car but from maintaing them!
What about a full ACL set for $235
thats complete bullshit.Originally Posted by Cressida91GLX
mine wasnt a full engine gasket kit, so it sounds about right, when you take trade into account

Cheers
ACL are quite a well known aftermarket brand in the industry. The quality is quite good, probably bordering on one of the better brands.

ACL is an aussie brand and is famous throughout the industry.
ACL make the famous Monotorque gasket used by nearly every auto garage in the land.
I got my set on Saturday from Repco Brookvale and since they have a discount this weekend the full set cost me $227.,
If you are running high boost and you have healthy block and head surfaces then you could consider the AJUSA gasket set that has a very nice Multi layer steel head gasket. These cost around $280 for the set. This is what I originally intended to use but my block is too pitted for a MHG.
Good luck
