Is it throwing any codes? It'll feel like arse under some of the limp home scenarios.
Hey,
We recently put a 1ggte into my bro's x71 cresta.
The car runs fine but feels well down on power..
It's been a while since I've driven a car with factory 1g in it so we decided to try a boost controller and raise it up a bit.
Wasn't sure if it was just gutless as fuck from the factory while running only 10psi..
So we raised boost to 16psi.. The turbos sound like they are running a lot more than that, it feels like they want to keep boosting but the car doesn't feel any faster than on 10psi..
I had a similar issue with my old 7m when the timing belt slipped a tooth (retarding timing) It would boost hard but the car wouldn't make any power..
We checked the belt and it's fine..
Any other ideas?

How lame are we talking?
My stock 1G in a celica felt about the same as a stock SW20. I assume an x71 is a bit heavier, so are we talking a bit less performance? or a lot less performance? Is it across the range, or just feels like it is maxing out too early?
how does the exhaust look? is it running really rich?
Auto or manual?
Haven't checked.. The wiring during the conversion wasn't exactly professional..
The motor which came out if it was a 1s, if you don't know what that is. Picture a tired, bulemic hamster... With a broken leg... Which may also be mildly retarded... Trying to run in a wheel...made of lead.... Trying to generate some form of propulsion... Which seems to have been invented in a time before computers were even a twinkle in the eye of a skinny nerd with oversized glasses...
Seriously I'm not sure if it's capable of throwing codes..

Low performance accross range,
Running rich- yes
auto- box is holding up well though, no slip
the main thing which has me stumped us if it is just coz the 1g on stock boost is gutless, then surely giving it a little more boost would liven it up a little..
6psi more boost, with full 3" exhaust and frontmount should give a noticeable power increase from past experience..

Yeah, no experience with an auto 1G, but knowing how doughy they are down low with stock turbos and a manual, I expect that throttle response would be non-existant in an auto.
I'd expect it to have decent pull at higher revs though, unless it's shifting hell-early for some reason?
Does it seem to running alright otherwise? idleing OK? no roughness or stalls?
Idles ok, no stalls or anything..
We looked over the entire intake, cooler piping system yesterday and that's all sweet..
The thing that was making me lean towards timing was that it boosted up unnaturally early.. Held lots of boost no problem but wasn't making any power.. Exactly like in my supra when it slipped a tooth..
Timing belt is sitting properly though, maybe the dizzi has slipped, my uncle has my timing light ATM so can't check that..
Has anyone had experience with a timing issue like I described causing similar issues?

very retarded timming can cause high egts and hence faster boost, also will give poor performance. I would be checking with a light and see if it is moving when you rev and not just staying at a fixed angle.

Hi,
On my Soarer GZ20 which is quite heavy with a 1g-gte Auto, Raising boost from 9 to 14 PSI Makes a noticable difference, comes onto boost quicker, and pulls harder when you floor it. And this is on stock intercooler and exhaust.
My only other suggestion would be to check timing too, as 3J mentioned.
Spray all the joints in the manifold with aerostart to see if revs changed at all.
