Default Why does it my TA22 keep stalling

I have a problem, but lets not talk about that here just yet.

My Ta22 is running fine but has a habit of dying. It idles fine and drives fine but it will just die when I’m driving (sitting on 2000rpm and it just goes quite and rolls to a stop). It restarts and is good for another 5 minutes and then does the same. I know the fuel pump was replaced and it has been this way since then, is it possible it faulty.

So have no problem driving to the corner store, but not much further. I want to drive further!!!

    Cheers

    What motor are you running.
3TGTE might be old but it can still hammer along.

Does it stop suddenly, just like the ignition has been cut or does it sputter & spit & cough like it's running out of fuel, or something in between?
'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!

Im writing all of this assuming you have a 2t in there.

If it sputters and coughs (like when you start the car when its cold and its trying to kick itself into life) then it is a fuel/tuning issue. There has been some talk recently in the classic celica dedicated thread:

    http://toymods.net/forums/showthread...0&goto=newpost

about tuning carbies, go back a couple of pages to find it.

On these old cars the fuel pump is rarely as issue, it runs a mechanical pump directly off the engine I think? yeah? and they are rarely a problem, so IF it was faulty, the chances of replacing it with another faulty one is small.

It sounds like you could have a bad earth/battery problem somewhere though.

First of all check the connections on the battery. if your battery terminal connectors are really thrashed/out of shape then replace them (any auto place/auto electrician) and shouldnt be more than $6 or 7 each.

Im not entirely sure of where all the earths are but pop the bonnet and follow all the lines from the negative terminal on the battery. The one I am thinking could be an issue is on one of the bolts that holds the front chrome bumper on.

The chrome bumper has 2 brackets attached to it which slide through into the engine bay, each bracket is held to the body with 2 bolts and one of these bolts acts as the earth. Maybe remove the bumper, clean up the connections and put it all back together.

these are just a few suggestions.

hope you can find it and sort it out

    Thanks
Its does have the 2T and its not a cough and sputter, but more of a dead stop. So makes sense it could be electrical.
Time to get under the bonnet, ill keep you posted

    Cheers
