aren't the holes there to allow air movement caused by the diaphragm?
has been a while since i looked in one.
an easy fix is a cheap elec pump
edit: at worst, it will make the diaphragm fail earlier... meh
Hi,
My car had a roadworthy done last week and it got rejected as it was leaking oil. The mechanic advised that it was coming from the fuel pump so I assumed that would be an easy enough fix. I put a new gasket on but the oil was still coming from that area. Only after cleaning it and running the engine did I notice a thin spray of oil coming from both vents / breathers on the underside of the fuel pump as illustrated below.
I have got a couple of grub screws and screwed them into these holes but what I am now wanting to know is if this is safe or if it is integral to have these holes vented. The fuel pump still works fine but if someone could shed some light on any issues this may rise that would be great. Cheers

.....could be but why would oil be pumping / spraying out of it?......and since the fuel pump is still ticking along nicely can I continue as such?

I think the holes are there mainly to allow fuel out if your pump diaphragm breaks/cracks so fuel doesnt enter the engine. Cant remember if theres an oil seal inside the pump to stop oil getting where it shouldnt. Probably should put a kit throught the fuel pump and if that doesnt help check your blowby, excess sump pressure will bring out the weak spots of a engine causing oil leaks.
3TGTE might be old but it can still hammer along.
Hmmm how would I relieve the sump pressure then???

PCV valve? breahter from rocker/cam cover to airbox?
i have faint memory of filling those holes with silicon many years ago.. can't remember the outcome

Cheers OC......all the standard breathers etc are there so at a bit of a loss to see any further ways to vent.....I reckon I will see if anyone comes back with any strong negatives on this and if not just let it run its course.

Ditch it, run an electric fuel pump. Very easy and cheap to do.
