    Default 4agze/ 4age 20valve? oil squirters?

hi all im looking for help with my 4age/4agze engine. .

first i have a 4age 20 valve silver top block, crank and rods. 4age big port head and 4agze genuine pistons. i have built the engine and is running fine at the moment but on assembly i found the oil squirters foul on the piston skirts (only just but not the point) i was under the impression that the gze and 20 valve silver top bottom end both use same rods? i may be wrong and would like to know if i am.

secondly i thought they both have oil squirters? i pondered putting a copper washer to space it out but it will probably hit the rods and i would like to fix it correctly. i dont like the idea of boosting the engine without the oil coolers in place. so i want to have it sorted by time its run in. any info would be much appreciated

I was under the same impression as you...
I'm sorry I can't help you with a more definitive answer, but while we're on the topic I have something else to ask (I figure anybody who can answer your questions can answer mine). I heard from someone quite reputable with 4A's that one of the oil squirters is aimed directly at a bearing, and when you hit the 5 figure rev range can actually cause problems by "chewing" into the bearing itself. Now I've spoken to a few people about this and not one person had ever heard of it, but couldn't tell me straight up it's definitely not the case.
Can anybody shed some light on this?
The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.

im not sure if you have mixed and matched blocks and pistions. The 4AGE Bigport piston run a compression ratio of 8 to 1 and do not have a notching in the piston for the oil squirter, whereas the smallport have a 8.9 to 1 and have a notch in the piston for the oil squiter.

    correct me if im wrong

if u are running the 8.0:1 4agze pistons they wont have the cutout as from memory that model gze didnt have the squirters. only the 8.9:1 gze pistons did. apparently the cuts can be ground in. i found similar when searching about bigport 4agze pistons into blacktop 20V

FNQ rolla: not sure if u are talking bout big and smallport 4age or big and smallport 4agze

    yep that is correct

bigport 4agZe pistons did not have the notch for oil squirters as those models did not run oil squirters.....the following models did run oil squirters and are therefore having the notches for oil squirters....alot of people can get the notches cut in though!

thanks for the info i must have bought the big port ones. i thought all gze were small port but that thought didnt cross my mind.

does anyone know if they make any significant difference if you dont use them? i dont want to have to pull the motor down again. its turbo and 20 psi is max i will be putting into it. not likely to even be that high. i put 16 into a 4age with $25 each JCC pistons with no piston issues, rings packed up though.
