    Default ct12a disassemble

im currently taking apart my turbos so they can be measured by a turbo shop.

ive taken off both the exhaust and intake housing's.

now from here i remove the nut thing on the intake side of the shaft, take the fins off then slide the shaft out??

whats the best way to undo the nut holding the intake fin on?
should i mark the postion of the nut etc?
is there something else i should do?

    thanks

mark the position of the nut and the wheel to the shaft.. then put a socket on the exhaust end and undo the nut.. it will come off with a bit of a tap.. and yeh slide the exhaust wheel/shaft out

Why isn't the turbo shop doing this stuff?
Turbos are quite delicatley balanced. Get it wrong and they will chew out bearings & seals quickly.

    Hmm ok, odd.
Thought they would want to do it and charge more $$$s.

Anyway, did you get it apart?

the guy is actually quite a nice bloke, he said he will have a look over the turbo's for me and see if they are to be bothered with.

not yet i need to get another tool the size of the exhuast nut as i don't have anything that fits it.

Are you sure the guy wants you to disassemble the turbo, and not simply remove it from the engine. I certainly would not be pulling something apart which is balanced to one hundreth of a gram!

    cheers Chuck.

Maybe he knows how much a PITA it can be to get the turbine housings off some of these f%$kers, and wants you to bring it in in three pieces (comp and turbine housing + CHRA)?

well the turbo's are in parts now, i marked the shaft and fins position,

and yes he assured me that he wanted it totally dissembled to measure it. the assumption is that it will be rebuilt.

    thanks
