hey guys, its time to pull my finger out, i got a stocker ke35 with terrible suspension, so my intentions are to get wagon leafs cause there stiffer, and get them reset 2" lower, im planing on nolathane bushes all round and new rear shocks, not sure what rear shocks to run, some say sierra, im thinking just monroe gt's. thats the rear sorted.
for the front end, i need to lower the car to suit the rear lowered leafs, so instead of getting lowered corolla springs, im thinking of doing the xt130 mod, but not looking as far into the corona/peurgeot/hilux mod, just thinking of the larger diameter and wider discs, this should pull up a little better. Im not sure as to what i need to do with the lower spring perch where the spring sits, do i weld on a ke35 spring seat onto the corona strut?. and then use the corolla spring?. What is the best insert to use for the strut?
All up but, should i just get lowered springs and inserts in the original corolla struts, or am i better off upgrading to the xt130s?. coilovers would be nice but i think its a bit overkill. any help would be good cause im gonna chase some parts tomorrow and try get the suspension done over the weekend, cheers
hey mate thanks for the reply. the car will be used for street with slight possibility of track. budget is up in the air at the moment because if the struts come out, ill do balljoints, tie rods, wheel bearings, bushes.
the car has relativly standard 3k so im not looking for huge stopping power, but if you can make something work better thats newer for cheap, im all for it. ive been reading over the $250 upgrade and its great. i think ill go that path over the coilovers for cost wise. things like springs and struts what am i best off looking for, im assuming you use ke35 lowered springs?, how does the spring seat welded work with shock height and would you use lowered xt130 strut?
If it were my car I would probably upgrade to xt130 struts. Stick KYB inserts in them. Set of lowered springs from Kings. Leave it at that.
Rears again KYB shocks and reset leaves.
Just need to do something about the steering knuckles), as the bottom bolt pattern on the Xt130 is not the same as the Corolla (ie use the Corona steering knuckles as well, or AE86 power steering ones for rapid steering response)
I did coil overs, so I cant comment on what combination of spring perch and top hat you need for the front struts. A bit of research on www.rollaclub.com might come up with the answer.
If you go coil overs you can buy some sexy adjustable camber strut tops from Cusco - source them from AJPS
no worries, sounds like im getting somewhere, ill sus out the corona steering knuckles, i wont have any camber issues will i? what type of kyb shocks do you recommend or is there only one available. any comments on swaybars? is it worthwhile putting nolathane everything in? what about a larger front sway bar or mounting a rear?
i wouldnt nolathane everything on a road car, but its personal preference, depends how harsh you want it all. redoing the rubber bushes might be enough to get rid of the slop.
sway bars would definitely help. the later ke55 two doors had a front one factory, or rear one, cant remeber which.. thats all on the rollaclub faq
please not i am no guru here... do some more research and see what others have done and then make your own choices
