i'm going to take a gues and say - YES
it also would concentrate the sidewall loading on a smaller area, and thus potentially wear that area out faster.....
well so my theory goes. I've known to be wrong though, about many things!
Just curious... A slipper skirt piston would most likely cause even more rattling on startup than your full skirt forged piston, yes?

...... butt scratcher?!
the only differences btw a slipper piston and full skirt are
they use slippers for sprint racing ex 5to 20 laps
and full skirt ex bathurst 163 laps
there shouldnt be any noise btw a slipper and a long skirt in start ing up when cold unless you have more than 4thou piston to bore clearences then it will make a bit of rattle to it heats up ,and you dont get any more wear than std long skirt just less drag thats all ,and you can normaly rev short skirt pistons higher in the rev range
I assume heat would be a factor on slippers?
if there was no wear or longevity issue, they would use them for BOTH sprints and bathurst.....Originally Posted by Celica RA45

AU$TRALIA... come and stay and PAY and PAY!!! The moral high horse of the world!
sorry forgot ,also in sprint races they rev them higher say 1000 rpm more and are refreshed more often than indurance races as the motor has to last longer like during bathurst and they loose about 1000 rpm for the motor to last and about 20 hp as well ,thats what TTA used to do any way straight from graham herrings mouth
i.e. for the relative lifespan of each engine there isnt any significant wear or longevity difference... right?
like oldcorollas, i'm inferring from what celicara45 has said is that the slipper skirt does wear faster, hence the use in sprint races with more regular rebuilds![]()
...... butt scratcher?!
its not the piston that wears faster its the rings and the higher rpm that makes things wear faster
useful info mate - cheers!

Thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated!
