Default Cressida reverse lights not working

My reverse lights are not working. There is no power to the lights. (not bulbs ). Is there a fuse to check? Won't there be a sender unit on the side of the AUTO gearbox? If so how can I check if it is in fact working?

Check all the fuses first properly.

im pretty sure the wire for the reverse sensor comes of the inhibitor switch on the side of the gerabox

I can't seem to find a fuse for the reverse lights? Sensor must be on side of gearbox, any idea on what it looks like though? I'm hoping I can test the wire(s) coming out of that switch to see if it is the problem. What exactly is the inhibitor switch?

There should only be a few on there with 2 wires, probe them for continuity and have some one shift gears. If none of them close circuit when you go to reverse it might be the internal switch but that is unlikely. Then, work out if the switch is getting power and go from there.

On the autobox, RHS, mid to front-ish, there is a massive selector switch.
It has about a 10 pin plug. One of those pins is the R output.

Does the PRND21 setup on the dash still work?

Cheers, I will have a look if it stops raining here. The lights on the dash DO NOT work, assumed blown bulbs possibly or loose connection behind dash. Is this related? The "overdrive off" light works though.

What do the other 9 pins do? Any idea where I could get a wiring diagram for the plug?

    Yes, they are related.
All are powered by the GAUGE fuse from memory.
Highly unlikely that all bulbs are blown.

The other pins light up the PRND21 lights, as well as tell the ecu when you are in 2, L or R.

Sounds like the whole sender unit itself might be rooted. I am sure the GUAGES fuse is intact cause I was replacing the fuses next to it when I accidentally blew one when fitting my stereo.

Unlikely the sensor is rooted, as the Neutral Safety Switch runs through the same unit.

Pull the plug off and see if you have +12V there on any of the pins (the 2 big pins are the NSW - you can ignore these - the rest are +B, P, R, N, D, 2, L)

    NSW = neutral start switch
    +B = +12V

Found the problem, wiring ran from RHS over to LHS and there was a 6 pin plug which was not plugged in properly or dry joint or something. Reconnected it and all lights on dash and reverse lights in boot now working. Surprisingly easy when I knew where to look, thanks CrUZida.
