Default Urgent! MX22 tie rod ends.

    Hi all,

I went to take my MX22 over the pits today, and discovered that my drivers side tie rod end is completely shot. I've done the rounds of retail outlets, suppliers and specialist suspension shops with no luck. I get the same answer... "we don't stock it anymore."

I need to know if anyone else has encountered this issue, if anyone knows of a supplier that can hook me up, or of another model that is interchangable.

I've gone through a few parts catalogues and they all suggest the MX1* and MX2* are kinda out on their own in that regard, and that nothing is remotely interchangable.

My thoughts are that provided the actual wedge angle on the outer tie rod is the same as the angle on the steering arm, and the angle on the inner tie rod is the same as the angle on the center link, and the overall assembly can be adjusted to the same length, then it "should" work...

I've been able to measure the length of a T18 tie rod setup and it's pretty darn close to the same overall length, but as for the thickness and angle of the pins, i don't know...

    Anyone with experience and thoughts?

Got my AW11 steering bits from there. $108 (total) for both tie rods and tie rod ends.

    Tight steering is so awesome

Cheers for that. I actually called their suppliers direct and they no longer stock the parts listed there...

I've just pulled out the tie rod and did a comparison with T18 gear. It's thinner overall, but the angles and thicknesses are right for the actual pin, so I'll have a shot at using that...

I am upgrading to full rack and pinion at a later date to go with an engine conversion and full suspension overhaul, but I just need her licensed and running ASAP for the time being...

I'll post up the details of how well the T18 tierods clear in about half an hour when it's done.

Well, the T18 ones fit! I had to wind them out about half an inch, but there's still stacks of thread, so they should do the job quite nicely!

Cheers for that. I'm not going to worry about it, as she'll be getting rack and pinion put in so I can fit my 2JZ and run a 3" exhaust where the steering box currently resides...

The T18 arms are doing really nicely. Just took her for a hot lap around the block, and she's quite happy. Best she's ever handled actually.

Hey mate. I had a simular problem with the steering Pitman arm in my MX22. Called everywhere around Australia and got the same answer. "They dont make them anymore" and the one I had COULD NOT be reconditioned. I ended up getting a good one off a wrecked MX23.

Anyway, Iam not sure about the tie rods, but the front suspension setup is very simular to the RT104 corona. Have a look at them, they might just work for you.

But if the T18 arms are working for you, just run with that
