    Default 18rgeu won't start

After putting the 18rgeu engine into the celica and having all loom made and connected up, we attempted to turn the engine over but nothing happens.

After testing for power with a multimeter it appears that power isn't reaching the fuel and starter relays - hence not starting the car. We have been referring to one of the wiring diagrams on here and everything seems to be wired up correctly. There is power the the coil and air valve circuit.

Is there anything that may be stopping the starter relay from switching? Any ideas would be great.

The fuel pump relay should be triggered directly from the main relay (for 12V) and gets its earth from the afm. Make sure its getting its +12V from the main relay. (Im assuming the coil and air valve are getting power from the main relay so the relay itself is working)

The starter aux relay is triggered from the start signal (+12V in start) and earth is constant. The relay should only switch when in the start position. When the relay switches it should turn the fuel pump on by providing an earth to the fuel pump relay.

I just re-read your post and notice your engine isn't even turning over? The starter aux relay in the diagrams does not switch current to the starter motor. its there to turn the fuel pump on when the engine is cranking (i.e. before the afm flap opens).

You may want to check that the wiring to the starter solenoid is intact.

Great thanks alot, ill check over these things tomorrow. Yeah we weren't sure whether it was an issue with the ECU not backfeeding power or such to the relay. It's sounding more like an issue with the starter solenoid like you said. The engine is dead in the water when in the start position - aside from getting power to the main relay.

Yeah dood, the starter solenoid is all done through the body wiring. You can easily hot wire the starter motor to check it works. Just needs +12V on the spade terminal to get the engine turning. If this works then get a multimeter and check for +12V in start on the wiring that was on the small terminal. If there is no voltage you need to follow it back and find out why.

The ecu doesn't control starting its only connected to the starter so it knows when the engine is being started and fuels accordingly.
